Last year I downloaded a fantastic 1973 disco track called "We're On The Right Track" by Ultra High Frequency and after listening to it, I rate this track one of the best disco songs of 1973. I hear a bit of talk about this song on some websites, but I would like to know how popular was this song in discos around 1973/74? And how far did it made the pop and R&B charts?

    Hi Funky Dude,
in Billboard charts (Pop-Singles, R&B-Singles, Disco) was this title not placed.
The song is new published on double-CD "Sounds Like 54" (SMAK Classics, 2001).

Funky, this track is listed as #54 on a Top 500 disco chart released by Disc-O-La USA (out of NJ)in the late 70's, although I don't remember ever dancing to it back then(to young)according to old DJ's friends of mine it was a hot club hit in the early days.

    Hi FUNKY DUDE,

do you know that the single of UHF's "WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK" was the 1st single to include a instrumental version on the B side? The instrumental version was released to make easier for DJ's to mix the song at the DISCOS. With the success of "WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK" by UHF, to release a single with a instrumental version of the hit on the flip side became a common practice of the music industry.

BTW, I have a friend who is a great DISCO DJ and he thinks that BLUE MAGIC's recording of WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK is better than UHF's. For me, the BLUE MAGIC version is ok, and the original by UHF is a real classic.

    Peace,

    Zeca,

I did not know that Blue Magic recorded "We're On The Right Track". I do know that South Shore Commission released a cover of it as their follow-up to "Free Man".

SSC's version peaked at #30 on the Billboard R&B chart 10/24/75 and at #94 on the Pop Chart.

The original by Ultra High frequencey DID NOT chart on either of these charts.

    Hi MARKY,

I already know SSC's version of WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK. BLUE MAGIC's version of this classic song is included on the 2nd album by the group, called "13 Blue Magic Lane" (Atco, 1975). BTW, UHF's original version, although it not appeared on the charts, was a huge success on DISCOS at the time.

This was a BIG club hit back in the day. I can't remember which song is listed in Mel Cheren's book but zeca might be right that this was the first 45 with an instrumental side. Tom Moulton's early wizardry. This cut and Patti Jo's, "Make Me Believe In You", were THE CUTS on the Disco Gold (1975) lp released by Scepter featuring Mr. Moulton's work.

If you can get your hands on the "Soul Collector" series CD, Vol. 3, this cut is there in a version a full 'minute +' longer than the Disco Gold release:
    DISCO GOLD --- 5:17
    SOUL COLLECTOR --- 6:25
