    Chaka Khan

:D :D :D I was just thinking about that song "Ain't Nobody Love's Me Better". I love the instrumental in the beginning. I remember it was a little later like early eighties. Chaka Khan is the girl. Man, that was so good to dance to.

I love when she sings the part "I wait for nightime to come to bring me to you". I got rid of the one sided ponytail by then. It put a permanent kink in my neck just like my brother said it would.

Anyone remember Danskin's? Were they the best or what? Pain in the butt when you went to the ladie's room though. Ahhhhh. The price we pay for beauty.

    Welcome Ace.
I love Chaka too. I've always liked her vocal range.
Refresh my memory of Danskins. The name rings a bell, the type of clothing doesn't?

Hey Bernie. This "guest" posting is kind of annoying. I logged in but I guess you gotta login when you post too...I guess? Are you updating the site?

    Guys,

I don't get it. As long as you check off the box that says "Log me on automatically each visit" when you first log-in you'll never have to log-in on future visits under most circumstances. Unless you are clearing out your cookies (no reason why you should), there is no need to keep logging in each time.

    Bernie,

Paul is confused, the elections are near and he hasn't decided yet. That makes him do strange things :)

As for Chaka, well, she's one of the all-time greatest. The period with Rufus, her solorecords, her version of Prince's "I feel for you", they all are superb. The voice is immediately recognizable and she still reaches the perfect notes. I saw her perform at a Prince gig and WOW.

"Once you get started", "I'm every woman" and even "All good" are perfect examples of perfect records.

But I don't know what or who Danskin's is. Maybe Ace could tell us more about it.

Thanks for the welcome you all. Chaka, and Prince all in one night? How awesome. That had to be sensory overload for sure. She does have an immediately distinguishable voice. Unfortunately I never have seen her live. There's a goal.

O.K. Danskins. I'm sorry I should have been more specific. Danskin is actually a brand name for dance wear. We wore the leotards or bodysuits constantly. Guys liked them because they were so form fitting. Then they started making the wrap around skirts. It was important to wear them with those mules (high heeled sandals) by Candies. Think of Travolta's dance partner in Saturday Night Fever.

***I meant guys liked them on girls cause they could check you out, but I'm sure some guys wore them, and probably looked better in them than us girls. LOL

OK Bernie, I'm getting older and all this technology is over my head :D
Johan, that was pretty funny  You know, your comments about the elections aren't too far from the truth
Hey Ace. I thought that's what Danskins were. It's been 20 years so I wasn't totally sure. Yes, we did like them on you babes. The way it caught every curve and groove was a thing of beauty on the right woman :D

We see that even after Paul's identity crisis he still hasn't forgotten some things

A great way to think about Chaka -- a fabulous talent who continues to surprise; and also bring to mind a recently departed talent of even greater stature -- Ray Charles: Pull out your copy (or, if you don't have one [God forbid!]) buy a copy of Quincy Jones "Back on the Block" and immediately select the duet featuring the previous two artists doing "I'll be Good to You," the hit originally made famous by The Brothers Johnson. Ms. Khan warbles "Let me take off your shooooooooes." Mr. Charles responds "I'll be good to you -- with the Visa, Master Card, American Express, turn my pants upside down!" They truly enjoy this romp - you will, too. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed Chaka Khan's "Life Is A Dance,The Remix Project" from 1989.It's an updating and reworking of a number of her classic hits in a house groove.I believe you can get it on CD.I have ithe original 2 record LP. Certainly one to have for the CK lovers.
    From AMG;
"Bouncing between tracks that take great liberties and ones that simply update and stretch the originals, Life Is a Dance (The Remix Project) is a respectful and joyous celebration of Chaka Khan's solo output. The big hits are treated well, with Paul Simpson's softening of the rough edges in "I Feel for You" making it more of a rolling groove, while Marley Marl presents a minimal house take on "This Is My Night." Richard Tee's glistening piano is pumped way up on Dancin' Danny D's mix of "I'm Every Woman," and the lone Rufus track, "Ain't Nobody," gets a slight update by Frankie Knuckles. The album's highlight, "I Know You, I Live You," is extended to nearly eight minutes by Tony Humphries, giving the shimmering disco groove plenty of deserved room. The sleepers are where Life Is a Dance really shines.

Hank Shocklee takes the slinky duet with Rick James on "Slow Dancin'" and adds that clunky drum sound that made him famous, while "Clouds" presents one of the final true house mixes from Clivillés & Cole before going pop and pedestrian with C+C Music Factory. Perhaps a sign of the times, none of the remixers get credited on the outside of the disc and a glossary of terms such as "house" and "def" is included. A few of the tracks sounded dated a couple years after the album's release, but overall the collection shows more restraint and good taste than expected."
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
