Is live video available of Salsoul Orchestra ??

I'm a huge fan of Montana and his Salsoul Orchestra and I have read he did some great concerts but I would like to know if any of this material is available on either CD or DVD.

    Hi Maestro,
Welcome along to the forum, good question for your first posting. I am also a big fan of Vince and the Salsoul Orchestra, not forgetting the great stuff he did as part of M.F.S.B. for Philadelphia International. I would have loved to have gone to a gig of M.F.S.B. or Salsoul Orchestra, but I was only sixteen in 1977 and living in the North of England dreaming of visiting the studios when they would be recording. I would also like to get hold of a DVD of Salsoul Orchestra performing live in the late 70s!
Now are you the Maestro from Amsterdam, friend of Graham B & Bluenote comp man? If so, say hi to Graham & Cassie 6 for me....

    Live foortage Salsoul Orchestra

    Hi Mark,
Nice to get a response on my post.
Sorry to hear that you don't know of any live footage of Salsoul Orchestra. I use this nick since I'm a lifetime fan of The Maestro Barry White who is actually my biggest idol.
So I'm not the Maestro from Amsterdam.
Are you aware of any Salsoul Orchestra / MFSB fanclub existing ??
Recently on the net I saw a CD of Montana called "Heavy Vibes" , now I don't know of any music that came after The Salsoul Orchestra stopped, do you know this album and could you then give some idea about the sound, has it gone jazzy ??

    Regards,

Click for info on Vince Montana's Heavy Vibes CD

It features two CDs worth of material after his tenure with the Salsoul Orchestra.

Thanks Bernie for your reply, I was curious about the sound on this CD, has it changed much in comparison with Salsoul Orchestra ?
For instance are strings on the CD, orchestral arrangements or just a small group of musicians playing jazzy tunes ??

Thanx in advance for the info.

the cd has 100000 different versions of heavy vibes. A few differen tversions of the tracks he made after 1983 an d a few versions of it looks like love.

I got the CD but only think it has 4 tracks with any play value.

    Hey Maestro

I can't help you with Salsoul... would love that myself too. I think live performances in the disco/dance field are highly underated.

    I have great memories of:

Rose Royce (thrashing Carre in Amsterdam... all people on the chairs, and Berend Boudewijn and Martine Bijl dancing the night away... OK you have to be Dutch to appreciate that one :-) ).
Kool & The Gang (partaayyy - seen them several times, never disappointed).
Chaka Khan (at Northsea Jazz... she was so drunk - or something - she could hardly stand up... but still sounded awesome. She corrected this weird memory for me when she was guest in London's "Mama I want to sing" gospel musical, which I saw around 1996 or 1997 on closing night where she partnered with Kym Mazelle and daughter)
Earth, Wind & Fire (greatest show on earth)
Kid Creole & The Coconuts (see Kool & The Gang)
Thunderstorm (especially their version of Here's to you!!!)
    Massada (remember them?)
Michael Jackson (the best part being the band playing under direction of Greg Phillinganes and Michael being of stage :-) )
and of course Barry White (I have two concerts that I taped from TV (in mono) - one in Gent and one in the UK, both with real orchestra!).

Not exactly disco, but also a real treat live: Candy Dulfer, Incognito, Diane Krall, Dr. John, Toots Thielemans, and (believe it or not) Frank Sinatra. I have seen many more live performances but I have listed the ones that were memorable to me.

Live albums... another overlooked genre... often dismissed as second rate. But if you listen to Rufus & Chaka's "Stomping at the savoy", Average White Band's "Person to person" or The Crusaders featuring BB King and Josie James "Royal Jam"... well... enough said.

Sorry... I will shut it now :-)

    Hey Maarten,

apparently we have the same taste in music, since music like Toots Thielemans and Diana Krall comes second after Barry White and solid disco like Salsoul, MFSB, groups like Trammps, Love Commitee, Double Exposure etc.
I saw Maestro Barry White everytime he was in Holland. I also saw his last concert together with Earth Wind & Fire.
The Maestro himself was very bad already due to his physical condition, however the sound and arrangements of the orchestra were never better, and EWF was awesome.
I also have life footage of Barry White and always looking for more.
Gotta to go to work now, bye bye.

    Hi gvtaylor

Some months after you left Brazil, Modern Sound opened an underground small store specialized in out of print vinyl.

There were some gems of the disco era, but nothing too rare. But for us, living here is good to have a store like that.

There was many albums by Philly Soul groups, almost all MFSB, TSMonk, brazilian pressings of Salsoul, AVI, etc...

It seems the store is expanding... as I don't care for brazilian music I didn't check the brazilian music parts, but probably it may contain something interesting. If you're interested in something, let me know.

Hope you did find the other vinyl store in Gavea TRACKS. Let me know if you get back here.

    Greetings Paulo,
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I did manage to find some new soul/jazz samba style new releases at Tracks, owner was friendly and helpful, please say hello from me next time you visit the shop! (did not find any old records that I wanted with him though)
I picked up some nice disco from other sources, stuff like Famks, Taxi, (both LPs) Junior Mendes & a nice soul disco 7" from mid 70s by Tony Bizzaro...

    Best Regards

    Mark
