I'm not very sure, but it could also be a cover from an old 50s song, but anyway Freda Payne is most definitely what you mean, now I come to think of it it is definitely 73. I have it in my collection, but its on CD and is a rerecording, which does not sound exactly like the original single, but sill has the atmosphere of the original song (U might even like this version better ...)

Just saw an album at Amazon by Tina Charles which has Band of Gold listed as a track. The album is "The Very Best of Tina Charles" but does not have any sound clips. It might be worth checking out. :D
