I read nonkel808's recent topic on women, etc. and he answered something I wanted to ask you all:
How did you choose your nicknames? What to they mean?
Here's quoted nonkel808's response:
"by the way, you asked me where my name comes from: nonkel808.
Well, it's sort of a joke. By real name is BOB, but i always write in capital letters and sometimes my name looks like 808. Somebody told me this and eversince i started using 808 as name. (pronounced as eight o' eight) The NONKEL is just a Dutch word for UNCLE. Some people call me this way plus and its a reference to a Belgian 50ies child TV presenter called NONKEL BOB of whom i have a vintage vinyl album (with child songs) hanging on the wall above my turntabels.
When i firts visited this site i was in a funny mood and so entered nonkel808 as my username".
Now about mine: Nano is a family nickname based on my actual name (Fernando), probably because I pronounced it as "nano" when I was very little.
You don't have to post personal information if you feel uncomfortable, etc. But there are some nicks I just wonder... "Boodikka", for example. (Sadly she's not here to answer.)

Well, I was part of the Caister / Goldmine soul scene in southern England in the Seventies. (Caister and the Goldmne were well-known soul venues). We used to go around to the clubs, cinema etc in a big group and our Soul Tribe (as each group was called) was the Jazz Pilgrims.
I THINK THAT EXPLAINS IT !!!!!!!
My real name is ...... Simon
If it moves - funk it!!
How did I come up with my nickname? Well, when I started posting at this one anti-Backstreet Boys message board, I felt like an outsider (hence the nickname). But then I became a regular there, becoming part of the "community" that existed at that board, but the name stuck with me. After that board closed, all of us moved to another anti-Backstreet Boys message board, and when that closed we went to this anti-Ricky Martin board the I helped create. When that ******* Death (who was also a regular) started that fight with me, I bailed from the community, and got out of the "anti" site thing completely (I am way too old for that juvenile crap). However, I decided to stick with that nickname when I started posting here.
I should also add that I refuse to reveal my real name on the internet.
A friend of mine who passed away too soon used to refer to me as NickNack. It started I guess when he said to me one night, "Damn, Nick, you've got the 'nack' for this music." From then on, he refered to my my music as "NickNack Music", telling everyone he could they should hear "NickNack" play. He was a very good friend to me and my lover but he was taken because his last lover actually lied to him about being HIV-negative. The BASTARD.
Enough of that. "Nicky", my other name is simple: In the Air Force they shortened my last name, Nicholson, and called me Nick. In the 'gay' world, Nick became Nicky. Who knew...

Well...IF YOU MUST KNOW:
Mark = my first name
Marky = sometime nickname
Fad = first syllable of last name
When I registered for hotmail--I used my whole name; something got screwed up with that account so I reregistered and had to come up with something else. A secretary said use "da music man" cause I play music all day, I guess. I thought that was too lame. But the "da" gave me an idea .....
Voila!!!! marky de fad (obviously a play on Marquis de Sade) without that last "e"--Hey, if Barbra can lose an "a" , I can lose an "e".
Last summer, I saw a gardening truck leaving our building with "Marquis De Sod" on it's door. I was most amused. How clever I thought.
Oh, and your story "Jeff"...I can't wait.![]()

Oh, yeah--my name is a real mystery, my explanation a complicated one:
Jeff is the name my parents gave me, and H is the first letter of my last name. Fascinating, huh? (I wasn't even going to post on this topic, but since Marky asked....)
I didn't know we were supposed to use an alias. You, of all people, Marky, know there's very little I try to hide.

Mine is a diminutive for my real name, Guillermo. I used to go by oso de peluche, which is teddy bear in Spanish. But then this website was re-designed, so when I tried to continue using my former user name it didn't let me. Then I decided for guille, which makes me laugh everytime a non-spanish speaking person tries to pronounce it.

Actually the nickname Sam "ALL JAM" was a DJ name given to me by Hot '97's Bobby Konders. When we were growing up we were in a DJ crew together. I used to call myself 'Sam the man with the jam'. He shortened it gave me the name because I play all types of music and could cater to most any crowd. Thus, the origin of Sam "ALL JAM".
Easy,
Sam "ALL JAM"
Here's how I got my nickname.
One night I had a dream that Paul Parker appeared before me in a flash of lightning. He said in a loud, powerful voice "thou shall be called nrgbeat and spread the word of dance music".
I looked up at him and said "you want me to call myself nrgbeat?"
He replied "you're right on target."
Then I woke up.

My nickname is as creative as Jeff's.
Nano's linguistics is amazing. However, I would pronounce my name as Gheeshah. Put some stress on the double ee, look at the stars and make a wish. Good Luck!!!

Marky, what exactly did you mean by the above comment? Hmmmmm?
When I first became a member, I went by the name DISCO DELIGHT. Just like Guille, when the format was changed, I couldn't register as DELIGHT so I created the name HUSTLEBABY.
My DISCO DELIGHT name came from my co-workers because disco was the only kind of music that I would play. They also accuse me of being "stuck in the 70's". DISCO DIVA is another name they call me.
HUSTLEBABY was given to me by this guy who was teaching me how to hustle and as I was getting better, he yelled out HUSTLEBABY!!!
*DISCO DELIGHT*
How did I came up with a nickname "Funky Dude". Well back in the fall of 1998 I was in the music library hiring disco and funk related CDs (and there weren't many) and I filled out some order slips for some funk/disco albums such as Commodores "Machine Gun" album, Ohio Players "Fire" album, Parliament "Mothership Connection" album, and a few others and when I gave the slips to the librarian and he said "Whoaa you are one funky dude". And the name kinda stuck. Then when I started signing into messageboards and joined Ebay I used "funkydude74" and when I joined the Disco Music message board in the fall of 2000 I used the username "Funky Dude". Reason I like the name Funky Dude, is because of the obvious reason I love the really hard thumpin' funky music especially from around 1974/75 era, and I really love disco music especially the salsa style. In my other nickname "funkydude74" I added the 74 because it is one of my favourite years of funk and disco. As you know I really love the rare funky disco tracks especially from the early/mid 70's and I try and look up the really rare funk/disco songs and download them from Audio Galaxy.
My nickname "Funky Dude" is only online. Offline I've had a couple of nicknames but none of me mates call me "Funky Dude". Back around the early 90's when I use to lived down the coast I was well-known as "Wally" and when I run into old friends from down the coast they go "Hey Wally". My only other nickname I had which was real brief and lasted no more than a few weeks at high school was "Hopalong" and there is a story to that. Back in 1999 when I was walking to the youth center I kicked a palm tree branch and "Ouch" I had palm tree splinters in my toes. For a couple of weeks I was limping when walking around at high school my mates say "Hey hopalong". During that time I got a few splinters out of my smaller toes and I still had pain in my middle toe. I kept on slapping black ointment on and trying to somehow pull it out and after two weeks I managed to jar it loose and when I pulled it out "WHOAAAA THAT IS ONE HUGE-ARSE SPLINTER", the splinter was at least 1 inch long, I didn't realise it was that huge and I had it in me for two whole weeks. I showed me mates my huge splinter and they were shocked and the nickname "Hopalong" dropped.
Anyhow getting back to my online usernames, for other messageboards and other stuff I normally use "funkydude74" as a username and "Funky Dude" for this forum only.
Boudacea was a queen of the Iceni tribe whose armies battled the Romans. She is considered the greatest female warrior in history (Jeanne D'Arc was a WIMP!). In 1992 DC Comics created a female Green Lantern character whose demeanor reminds me a great deal of me own. The character's name was a bastardization of Boudacea.....Boodikka! It's my nom de plume all over the web.
