The only video footage of Sylvester I have seen are the videos for "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" and "Do You Wanna Funk". What other video footage of Sylvester is available or exists?
Another biography by James Earl Hardy
"Sylvester: living proof"
It talks about SF, Castro etc ... [/u]

I have a video on vhs somewhere of his one of his last hit records.... SOMEONE LIKE YOU
Paging a studio exec looking for a biopic project. This could be a blockbuster.
Who should play him? I say Tevin Campbell.
OneCharmingBastard
Would that choice be solely due to Tevin's high, flexible tenor ?
High flexible tenor, and ok, the fact that he pulled a George Michael a few years back (in a park) means he might not be adverse to playing gay.
Always thought Sylvester was a movie in the making. From his Hot Band days to seeing him on "American Bandstand" doing "You Make Me Feel" when I was twelve.......now THAT was a showman!
OneCharmingBastard
the kind of showman sorely lacking at last week's VMA trashfest ! Despite the decadence, its a sad fact that it just doesn't seem possible in the current hip-hop dominated climate for an Afro-American artist to be out, loud and proud and have a successful Top 40 career. A fabulous performer like Sylvester is sorely needed to bring relief from the endless and often quite camp macho posturing !
There was enough drama in Sylvester's life for a movie trilogy but how would Hollywood handle it ? Surprisingly, there hasn't even been a documentary to date, surely his story has to be a VH1 researchers dream ?
Hadn't finished reading that 'Living Proof' biography which is why i failed to recall Tevin Campell being involved in an 'incident' some years back.
See the post in the Promotions and Events section for news about A Sylvester event coming up...

WOW! This conference is a dream come true! Will it be traveling to San Francisco in any way, shape, or form? This was his home for most of his career. I must see these rare and never-before-seen video recordings etc.Originally Written by musicvibe
Sadly no it's not travelling to San Francisco. Just two very special days in New York.
In my humble opinion, he was one of the greatest artists that exemplified the authentic disco era, as opposed to that over commercialized Saturday Night Fever business. He was openly gay, black, polysexual, good looking, and had a prodigious background in gospel and blues music-doesn't this all sound like the ingredients of disco rolled into one? He's definitely deserving of a biopic, and his music still holds up as well. When I put together deep house mixes at home, I like to incorporate "Over And Over" or "I Need You" into the mixes, and the records still sound incredibly fresh and hold up! It would be great if they would make a film on the Paradise Garage and Larry Levan as well. Like Sylvester, Levan was a character and the first DJ superstar. My mother turned me on to Sylvester when I was a baby boy and I have always been a fan. Whenever someone bashes disco, just play them Sylvester and let them soak in the brilliance of a true artist/icon.![]()
Very special indeed! Worth flying 3000 miles for, but I myself cannot justify the expense. Hope all fans within driving distance of New York are able to attend.Originally Written by musicvibe
Meanwhile, where/how can we see some of this rare video footage? I have seen the very brief segment in "The Cockettes" documentary. I've been waiting for "Mighty Real" to be finished and released for years.
What other Sylvester video footage is available for viewing?
As far as I know there is very little available for public viewing or purchasing at this point besides The Cockettes. At the conference there may be footage from a 1987 show at the Sands, including backstage home camera footage, a never-before-seen 1982 live show at the Castro with Jeanie Tracy and the other members of the "Fabulashes", and live footage from a 1972 show with The Hot Band. There may also be the Tonight Show clip from 1987, and videos like "You Make Me Feel" "I Who Have Nothing," "Can't Stop Dancing."Originally Written by Discovery
