Would you sleep with someone to get a record you wanted?

i found this question being asked elsewhere on the web, and i am reprinting one of the responses (protecting the name of the guilty, of course) to get things started:

"I'll tell you a story you really won't believe!

A few years back I was living with this girl from Glasgow. She had a much older brother who had DJ-ed a bit in the 70's. When we used to go up to Scotland to see her Mum this brother would often be around - he was a very camp guy in his early 40's who still lived at home. There was one record in particular he had which I'd never seen before - a special remix 12" of Linda Clifford "Runaway Love". I kept asking him "How much?", hoping he would just give me it - as I was almost family and he never played the records anymore! But he would always change the subject.

Anyway, one day we were alone in the house when out of the blue he asked me, "So do you want this record or not?"

"You know I do" I replied.

"Well, maybe we can work something out" with that he smiled at me and started rubbing his groin.

I was horrified and just stood there dumbfounded for what seemed like forever! I was going to hit him, but then I thought, "What the hell" it will only take 5 minutes and I do really want the record.

Luckily my girlfriend (now my wife) has never found out!"

This story sounds similar to a thread I read a few months back. Nothing like sucking up to get a record.

Pathetic! What the hell is this place turning into? A gay erotic fiction forum? And it's not even a good one because you're recycling the same garbage all over again! sfbeary, your friend Leatherman posted this exact same filth last year. You could've at least had the decency to try to change the story around just a little bit!

i'm sorry i didn't realize this is old news.

however, i'm not sorry if it offended you. obviously it made you uncomfortable for a reason.

interesting that you imply Leatherman is my "friend." what is that supposed to mean? that all the gays or the deviants or the whatevers all know each other and that we're conspiring to take the forum over? isn't Leatherman straight, anyway? the only person on here that i've met in person is the straight guy who runs this website. sorry to ruin your conspiracy theory.

i wouldn't change the story around because that was what i found on another DANCE MUSIC (not porn) forum.

if such a tame man-on-man story upsets you, perhaps you should change your name, Rodmann2.

    Rod,
I'm actually a bit surprised about this too. Knowing you better than most forum members around here, I do wonder why this upsets you :o (especially in the light of the chat sessions we've had outselves  )

I think these threads (serious or not) add some humour to what is otherwise a serious specialist music board.

sfbeary, please don't play the Homophobe card! There was nothing in my last post that would indicate that I believe that "all the gays or the deviants or the whatevers all know each other and that we're conspiring to take the forum over"! The reason I made the "friends" crack is because I figured that Leatherman and yourself are actually the same prankster since you posted the exact same story. My post was intended to be a lighthearted jab about posting the same old story on the forum twice but now that I look back it sounds very harsh. Please believe me when I say that it was not my intention!

sfbeary, I do apologize to you for the harshness of my last post but I will not apologize to you for what I said. I think that it's pretty low of you to immediately use the Homophobe card to get this forum's gay members on your side because you didn't agree with what I had to say! Why would I insult you or any other member's orientation when I have no idea who's heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, trisexual or quadsexual? I haven't been to this forum in months so obviously my intention wasn't to insult ANYBODY about anything!

You know K-Bee, I'm actually surprised at YOUR post because you do know me better than anyone here! How many times have we said mockingly harsh things to one another and laughed about them because they were meant in fun? It's odd how you can participate in threads about disco stars and rappers kicking the bucket but somehow you took offense to my post. Ha!

I apologize to anyone who honestly did take offense to "sfbeary's interpretation" of my original post. I've been away from this forum for several months and my intention was not to come back here just to insult our members and get mixed up in some sort of drama! I'm sorry that I spoiled what was meant to be humorous fun.

Just my opinion, so no need to get upset or anything. If you don't agree just say so, BUT don't get personal over it, eh? These are just observations based on my 2 years here and someone who's often been beaten up.

IMO: It would be a great idea for those Gay members of this forum to police the Gayness quotient of theads a little closer and try and actively remove Gay references where the Gayness or otherwise becomes the raison d'etre. Then we could all post in peace and be a little more open.

IMO: As it is, this site does feel overly Gay at times and many members wear their Gayness as a badge of honour. It would appear to me that their Gayness comes before any musical considerations and so, yes, it can be (a) slightly threatening (b) lead to drama where it doesn't exist, (c) lead to a wholly distorted take on reality and (d) lead one to believe that there is a certain amount of bullying/ganging up. Trouble is, whenever one of us straight guys writes anything you don't like, you almost always make it into a Gay issue. Shame on you all.

What the f*** has anyone's sexual orientation got to do with Disco Music apart from the obvious stereotyping, which I'm repeatedly told is actually very, very wrong and not at all true? Hmmm, let me see. Nearly all the Gay members here like fast Hi NRG disco cuts more than funk, you nearly all get bitchy, you nearly all make a mountain out of a molehill and you nearly all get incredibly touchy about certain things.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, fellas.

If you really want to be accepted for who you are, why does this impenetrable Gay front have to go up, every time?

I wish you'd all loosen up a little.

I actually think you're right about this Quinny.
the board feels quite gay at times, but I tend to let most things go unnoticed. This IS a music board after all, but still, a little joking around once in a while doesn't hurt that much in my opinion.

    Rod,
I dunno really...maybe there's some difference in posting on boards and "saying mockingly harsh things to each other" as you elegantly put it. One thing is a 1 on 1 communication process for no one else to take notice of, the other a public forum.
Maybe it's just me feeling that particular difference in the arts & crafts of internet communication processed....but oh well - I rarely make any sense anyway (which you definetely should know by now  )

    Barry,

That was way too funny  and just goes to show that it's all in the eye of the beholder.

As for the post... yes, it orginally appeared here first by way of Leatherman about a year or so ago. I ultimately deleted the entire thread as it degenerated very quickly, which is why it no longer appears here.

SF: your reply just goes to show how much you're in denial.

no no drama exists until [and this happens in every gay thread]youre in like a speeding bullet inflicting your selfish views offending people and hey presto drama

    c) lead to a wholly distorted take on reality
but gay life is part of reality and it happens weather its for a linda clifford record, lust or an act of love get over it.

think id be right to say any gay member of this board would neither care or desire to be accepted by YOU, im sure they would all think that if to be a man like you with your selfish attitude was a good alternative to a gay lifestyle they would go for the gay one anytime

Come on guys. Let's all be happy music-lovers :D

But to answer the real question of the topic: no, I won't sleep with somebody just to get a record, man or woman, coz'

Before all of you begin to think that I'm a saint. Once a girl I knew had a People's Choice album which I didn't have and I couldn't find anywhere.

Well I slept with her and....

Luckily a few years later I found it in a second hand-store :D

(True story, honestly! But I didn't sleep with her to get that record but still, she never gave it to me)

Marky: Touche. You really thought that was CLEVER!?!?!? To be really clever, SF's parody should have been at least 1% truthful or funny. It was neither, really, especially if he meant it in earnest..

Guess what DD....I don't give a damn. Do you know how sad you look? Blind hatred is never a good thing. Think about it, you've sunk to a lower place than even I would ever go to.

    Ah Q,

From MY PERSPECTIVE it was hilarious.     (a 5-star laugh post) Just a gentle poke at your diatribe about the site being TOOOO GAY. :o We may mention this from time to time because it's OUR truth....like YOU mention being a BRIT in nearly every post.

It's YOUR experience versus OURS. Nothing wrong with it; it's just the way it is.

To tell us to "tone it down," lest we offend the breeders, is quite ballsy on your part. We similarly challenge you to not mention your BRIT Badge of Honour in your future postings.

Ya see, I am being facetious in my request--you didn't seem to be in yours. And when the tables were turned on you--you failed to see the humor in the reversal.

    To each his own....

:D Thank you Quinny for being reasonable and attempting to make some sense of this whole mess. It seems to me that some people simply thrive on DRAMA! I could've replied to the that original post with a lovenote laced in smiley faces and someone still would've found a way take offense! Even after you extended the olive branch some still chose to reply with nasty and sarcastic posts. Go figure!

I originally regretted my first post to this topic but I don't now. Not one bit! The members wanted laughs and they got 'em. Obviously this is the most excitement that's happened on this forum in some time!

Marky: IF I mention dear ol' Blighty in my posts its to make it obvious that I'm only talking from my own perspective ('cos in the early days especially, I was berated by lotsa guys who didn't realise that Southampton, England meant I'm British).
THE POINT IS you guys ONLY talk from a Gay American angle (and even a one Disco angle) and don't even try to see any other point of view. At least I worked in Discos in three different countries, playing to many different nationalities. Therefore my angle is even more unique than just a Brit one.
BTW:If I wear a Brit badge of honour, why am I told off by Steely and DD for putting this great ol' country down so much? Go figure, as I can't.

Well now that I've read this wonderful thread, I'll put on my fuzzy pink slippers, throw back my hair and listen to some Judy Garland or Diana or Cher or maybe I'll go out and rent a copy of "The Women" or "Cabaret" or perhaps an Al Parker flick.

I hope no one finds my commentary too gay, don't wanna offend anyone.

Are you kidding me with this, Rodmann? Do you know where I'm coming from? Do you remember where you came from? Let me remind you. You're the Black man who got in my face because a certain someone was allowed to remain here. Now that the homophobia card is in play everything is cool and you're sharing kisses. Talk about drama --- and BULLSHIT. Gay, straight or otherwise, there's much to be said for keeping it real. You need to check yourself, brother, or was all that drama last year just for my benefit?

I posted in another thread I didn't know why the hackles were raised between you and Marky. Guess I found out...too damn late.

I posted in another thread I didn't know why the hackles were raised between you and Marky. Guess I found out...too damn late.
Whoa Nick! Let's start from the beginning because we're definitely not on the same page. When did I ever "get in your face"? When did I ever get upset because Quinny was allowed to remain here at DM? When did you and I ever have an altercation with each other? As far as I know NEVER! I remember last year when we discussed (outside of the forum) some racial comments Quinny made that I didn't agree with. As I recall, the bulk of our discussion was about my friends on the forum being shocked that I was even offended! I never attacked you or accused you of any wrong doing in our discussion.

Quinny and myself are not "sharing kisses" but I've moved on from our small altercation of last year. I wrote that last post because in this particular case Quinny made a good point. In my original post to this topic I said NOTHING derogatory about gay people but for some reason sfbeary took it upon himself to basically call me a homophobe. Nothing in sfbeary's original post shocked, upset or offended me! The reason I was so harsh in my reply is because I thought it was all a joke making fun of Leatherman's similar post of last year. I honestly meant no harm and I thought people would get a laugh out of it. The difference between my comments in my original post and Quinny's comments of last year is that I said nothing that would offend an entire group of people. sdbeary took offense to the tone of my first post so in retaliation he accused my of being the "Anita Bryant" of this forum! I apologize in advance for pointing out stereotypes but who would post to a Disco forum with a picture of Donna Summer plastered on the front page if they had a problem with Gays? It's safe to say that most of this forum's heterosexual members are pretty open-minded and have no hang-ups about sexual orientation.

Nick, Marky didn't attack me in the Sharon Redd thread because of anything I said to offend him. He attacked me simply because he enjoys posting bitchy and catty remarks here. He was also upset because I dared to go against him and write a positive post about DM's "black sheep" Quinny. Until the altercation in the Sharon Redd topic I had never had a problem (or much contact at all) with Marky. I'm still not sure why he chose to involve himself in this whole mess?

NickNack, I don't thrive on DRAMA & BULLSHIT like you suggest in your post. If I did I would post to this forum much more often because there's damn sure a lot of it around here! I'm sorry that you took the discussion that we had last year as me "getting in your face". My problem at that time was with some comments that Quinny made. I had no reason to be upset with you and I never have been upset with you.

    Respectfully,

    Rodmann
