    Marky--

I remember playing a tape (I think) several (?) years ago and saying to Bob, "When was the last time you heard a dance record with BAGPIPES in it?!"

"What IS the name of that song...?" (Relax; I won't start THAT again!)

If the title doesn't come to me eventually, I know I will smack myself when soemone does ID it.

    Hey Mark-
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the cut is "Scotch Machine" by Voyage from their first album. I can't imagine there's more than one disco record with a bagpipe.

Oh, my... If JC's got the right answer then there's more than ONE dance song with bagpipes in it--because I don't know that Voyage song!

Now I'm REALLY going to go crazy over this one...!

For some reason I'm thinking Bananarama or similar. Is that close, Marky?

    Hi Jeff-
I would have bet against it, and lost.
    Two disco songs with bagpipes?!?
    Now I'm really scared.

Well, John, we should know in a few hours. I'm guessing that Marky is on his way home about now, then he'll sit down at his home computer to disco(music.com) the night away.

Well John C. has come up with ANOTHER SONG WITH BAGPIPES IN IT!!!! And, I should add, one BETTER KNOWN than the one I'm talking about. (You'd know "Scotch Machine" if you heard it Jeff, I think).

Another clue: the song I'm looking for is from 1981 and NOT one of this artist's biggest hits. Maybe it's TOOOO obscure ????? From the U.K.--hint, hint.

I don't want to confuse anyone but I always thought Voyage's bagpipe track was called "Discotch" ??

My copy of the self-titled Voyage LP on Marlin records says the first cut on side 2 is "Scotch Machine".

This song is maybe on the obscure side. It just caught my ear cause, unlike in "Scotch Machine" this tune has nothing to do with Scotland--not Scotch whiskey, butterscotch, hopscotch, kilts, tartan plaid, Braveheart, Sean Connery, well, you get the picture. In the break, when you would expect to hear a sax or a trumpet or a guitar or a piano--there's BAGPIPES!!!!!!!

It's from 1981. A Female Artist from the U.K., very popular at the time in clubs. This is NOT her biggest song, though it's on her Greatest Hits compilation.

    And BEFORE Bananarama. More Disco.

    Any guesses??????

I think your last clue gave the artiste away

Is it not a Scottish lassie called KELLY MARIE?? Don't know the title of the particular song though - though I did look up her greatest hits on Amazon ...
If it moves - funk it!!

Well, since I'm not familiar with that particular Kelly Marie song, I'm still left wondering what the hell song I'm thinking of!

It's right there on the tip of my brain (you know what I mean) but it's not coming to me.

I think it must have been from somewhere in the 1988 to 1992 range, based on the tapes I seem to remember hearing it on. I guess I'm going to have to comb through those old cassettes if I want to figure this one out. (Kind of like Marky working those Billboard charts. )

Too late now to suggest these but what the hell just as trivia I'll bring on "Dancing Queen of Aberdeen", a 1977 track by Billy Scott nobody apparently ever liked or really misses now... Bagpipes were also heard on the excellent "Hopscotch" by Eli's 2nd Coming, off the classic album.

"world wide party" by Max Berlin also had bagpipes in the song.
