ARTIST SPOTLIGHT #1 - GLORIA GAYNOR

Hello everyone, since I volunteered to continue one of our popular threads... I contemplated on which artist to feature this week, so I decided to start off with one of the pioneering artists of the time. Gloria Gaynor

    FAST FACTS:

    1. Born Gloria Fowles on 9/7/49 in Newark, New Jersey. Dance-disco singer. Former member of the Soul Satisfiers and City Life. The true superstar of the disco era.

    2. Ranks #24 among the all time Disco Charting Artists.

    3. First charted on 10/26/74 w/ Never Can Say Goodbye

Ummmm, because I'm still a DJ after all these years... I get to hear this song almost weekly... (I WILL SURVIVE) .... but it's an anthem and there's nothing I can do about it. So, I jumped on the bandwagon, make sure that I put the song in the best spot possible to get people on the dance floor.

ANYBODY WANNA PARTY? is pretty much a bonafide jam. HONEYBEE and NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE fill out the rest of my best.

    Gloria in excelsis deo!

Can't find better words to describe one of the eternals stars in the discogalaxy.

She had a huge hit here a few years ago with "First be a woman"- great old-skool-stuff.

    -"How high the moon"
    -"Casanova brown"
    -"Walk on by"
    -"I am what I am"
-"Da medley as already mentioned by Marky"

And at least two very rare songs: "I will survive" and "Never can say goodbye". Almost unknown but goooooood :D :D

    A Tom Moulton mix!

Hey efunk. Awesome dude! What...you tryin' ta make me look bad...jus' kidding
I would pick I Will Survive but it was played soooo much! I will go for the slightly less played Never Can Say Goodbye.
Mario, I didn't care much for her latest. Too much of that modern machine sound to me. Gloria still sounded good though :D

By the way efunk. I meant to mention it would be a good idea to redo stuff I did, especially the first 10 or 20. I'm sure there are members here, new or otherwise who did not participate in the previous discussions. Besides, you'd bring your own flava (my word for the day :D ) to it.

I love her version of this song; one of my favourite 'camp revamps' of the 70s along with 'If My Friends Could See Me Now' by Linda & 'Macarthur Park' by Donna. I can relate to the lyrics too!

    I love
Let's mend whats been broken. It's a lovely song and got a lot of Radio play on London Soul stations. Have also noticed it on Paradise Garage playlists.

And from the same LP I can't take the pain.

I love LET'S MEND WHAT'S BEEN BROKEN ; I made a special folder on my iPod with all these laid back disco-ish tunes.

This is such a great song.

I also put I KINDA LIKE ME ; because it's a funky side of GLORIA.

I missed this post the first time around,so let
me put my two cents in now:
Has anyone mentioned a Gregg Diamond
produced track called "Why Should I Pay"?
-I loved this somewhat forgotten track.
    here goes:
    Honey Bee
    Survive
    Casanova Brown
    Reach Out
    Be Mine
    Anybody wanna party
    Do it yourself
    And Why should I pay....
    Happy Holidays disco babies!
    love Thom
