    Jungle D.J. lyrics - help!

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help with the full lyrics of the excellent "Jungle D.J." by Kikrokos.

The song is obviously telling some kind of a story, but unfortunately the singing is not very well intoned on the MP3s I have of the song. With the help of Bernie's entry in the Disco Vault, and by listening to the song, I got as far as I could below - and then gave up.

Could anyone help fill the gaps (maybe the lyrics are included with the LP or something?)

    Thanks for your help!

He was riding in a long black car
Chauffeur in the front for he was a star
    Oh Jungle DJ [DJ]
Really knew his way [they say]
Dirty Kate had a spider on her mind
O the needle and the damage done
    O Jungle DJ [poor soul]
Your friend's up the wall, poor soul, poor soul

?????? ??????? moon and the stars are set
    Whenever the wind is high
All night long in the dark and rain
    Jungle DJ's riding high
    ?????? ????? ?????? ????? ??????
And the ???? is ??? to see
    ???? ???? jungle ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
    Jungle DJ, rescue me!

    --------------------------------

    ??? ??? ???? in a tiger ???
    ?????? ??? ???? ???? ??? rock and roll
    Oh Jungle DJ [they say]
Really knows his way [hey hey]
Girl don't cry, I've gotta rescue me
    ???? ??? ????? ???? ? ???? ????? ???
This is what she say (?)
This is what I read, you read, you read

?????? ??????? moon and the stars are set
    Whenever the wind is high
All night long in the dark and rain
    Jungle DJ's riding high
    ?????? ????? ?????? ????? ??????
And the ???? is ??? to see
    ???? ???? jungle ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
    Jungle DJ, rescue me!

    ----------------------------------

Jungle's not for you, if you want me to, I'll take you home
Jungle's not for you, it'll make you blue, better be gone
It's a rotten time or a streak of luck
??? but I like the jungle I'm in
So be on your way back to all your fans
    ??? just before I ?? ????? ????

    ----------------------------------

It's a rotten time or a streak of luck
??? but we like the jungle we're in
Let's be on our way back to all your fans

One of my all-time favorites, and I have periodically searched for the lyrics with no luck at all.

I've edited and listened to this song six ways from Sunday on the computer, and this is my best guess on the lyrics. I sped it up, I slowed it down, I filtered out all the bass, I extracted the center channel, and I stretched it while maintaining pitch. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear 'em. The words in italics are the words that still seem extra mysterious to me.

    **********************************************

He goes round in a long black car
Chauffeur in the front, for he was a star
    Oh Jungle DJ [DJ]
Really knew his way [they say]
Dirty Kate had a spider on her blind
Oh the needle and the damage done
    Oh Jungle DJ [poor soul]
Your friend's up the wall, poor soul, poor soul

When the moon and the stars are set
    Whenever the wind is high
All night long in the dark again
    Jungle DJ's riding high
Under the trees all are tribal now
And the jungle starts that scene
On the jungle highway goin’ loud
    Jungle DJ, rescue me!

Stay in town in a tiger’s hole
Tiger dig it, and let’s rock and roll
    Oh Jungle DJ [they say]
Really knows his way [hey hey]
Girl don't cry, I've gotta rescue need
“Stop your frown and give me a man, D!”
That’s just what she said [I dig]
This is what I read, you read, you read

Whenever the moon and the stars are set
    Whenever the wind is high
All alone in the dark and rain
    Jungle DJ's riding high
Under the trees all are tribal now
And the junkie starts that scene
On the jungle highway goin’ loud
    Jungle DJ, rescue me!

Jungle's not for you, if you want me to, I'll take you home
Jungle's not for you, it'll make you blue, better be gone
It's a rotten time for a streak of luck, man
But I like the jungle I'm in
So be on your way back to all your fans
Now just before I get in a spin

It's a rotten time for a streak of luck, man
But we like the jungle we're in
Let's be on our way back to all your fans
Now just before we get in a spin

It's a rotten time for a streak of luck, man
But we like the jungle we're in
Let's be on our way back to all your fans
Now just before we get –
[Alright, if that's the way you want it, baby]

    Oh Dirty Kate
    Oh Dirty Kate
Oh Dirty Kate [Oh, Dirty Kate]
    Oh Dirty Kate

Ooh, if you need a druggle to never cry
Ooh, just don’t you believe it, the drugs run dry
    It’s a lie, it’s a lie
You are the one who’s left out to dry

Ooh, if you need a druggle to never cry
Ooh, just don’t you believe it, the drugs run dry
    It’s a lie, it’s a lie
You are the one who’s left out to dry

Ooh, you can’t get a teardrop, nor a drug
Ooh, you’re not a DJ with shows of love
    It’s a flood, it’s a flood
You are the one that should be friend of
    Be friend of

Ooh, you can’t get arrested, ignore us all
Ooh, you’re not a DJ you don’t know your job
    You’re a fool, you’re a fool
You are the one whose heart is so cruel
    You’re a fool, lonely, cruel

    Ooh, Jungle D, Jungle J, you’re OK
    Ooh, Jungle D, Jungle J, you’re OK
    Ooh, Jungle D, Jungle J, you’re OK
    Ooh, Jungle D, Jungle J, you’re OK

    Jungle D, Jungle J, OK
    Jungle D, Jungle J, OK
    Jungle D, Jungle J, OK
    Jungle D, Jungle J, Jungle D, Jungle J

    Hi Eclipse! 8)

I don't know if you got the private message I sent you before the facility was removed...

Anyway, a great stab at the lyrics, thanks for all your help! I still think there are some parts of the lyrics which will remain a mystery, though.

I think that druggle is actually struggle, that seems to make sense in the context of the surrounding lyrics (although a lot of the other lyrics don't make much sense!)

Maybe Bernie might one day speak to someone involved in this record and we might be able to find out!

I originally had 'to struggle' there, but changed it after listening a few dozen times more. You're right, it does make more sense, and the words are really hard to understand in that last bit. After my ears recover, I'll try going through the song again to see if anything sounds different!

I hear it as "If you've been in trouble, you'd never cry"

    and

    "It's a flaw"

It's "Give me a Mandy", not give me a man, D. This is apparently a refernce to the drug Mandrax. Then there's "Tigers dig it, bless that rock and roll". The lyrics are printed on the back sleeve of the original French pressing of the album. I can type the whole thing should anyone still need it.

That would be greatly appreciated! I'm in the middle of restoring this one (yes, I'm FINALLY getting back to doing more of that). I have only the US version with the curious comic on the back.

I'd love to see the real words after all these years, assuming it's not too much work to type 'em!

Thank you very, very much!! I would never have figured out what the words were... now I just have to figure out what they mean. :-?

BTW, I take it that the cover doesn't have the lyrics for the synthy track on side 2?

And an FYI -- despite a claim of a 15-minute running time, the A side is only about 13 and a half minutes long.

Yes, thanks for putting the lyrics up. Amazing how hard it is to actually understand some of those words when listening to the record!

    .
You're right - only the lyrics of side A are there. The French sleeve also has the comic strip and a long list of remerciements/many thanks. Lene Lovich gets mentioned.
Let me know if you need a jpeg for your restoration project.
