It sounds like you heard Chaka Khan's version of "Papillion (Hot Butterfly)" from her "Naughty" LP (1980). This was a cover of the original "Hot Butterfly" by Bionic Boogie featuring Luther Vandross on lead vocal with Cissy Houston on backup vocals.
It was 3:30 A.M. I was driving home from a very, very late night doing paperwork at the office. The public radio station was playing some really great soul/Motown/disco. A very familiar song came on; the female vocalist sounded a bit like Chaka Khan. The words I can remember were the French "Chanson Papillon" repeated a number of times; the chorus sang "Like Butterflies..." and the female vocalist comes in with a funky "like hot butterflies."
I remember this from the late '70s. I wanna pick it up again. Who's the artist and what's the name of the song? Email me at jazz@asianfusion.net. Thanks to all!
