Best From Artist 100 - Dynasty

Yes, I'm back. Had to spend a little time in South Florida. Let me just say that those beautiful Cuban women down there aren't afraid to show their beauty. I love it :D :D 8)
Well, so many artist, so little time. No, this wont be my last one. That will be next week, the force willing. :D It would have been number 100 instead of 101 but I fucked up. Delight caught it and noticed I did Marky's role model twice, Miss Diana Ross that is
I really had a hard time picking this weeks artist because in the mix among others was Weeks & Co., The Temptations, and B.T. Express. I decided to go with the straight up disco act. I always considered this group a good but weaker version of Shalamar. Some of you may already know I Don't Want to Be a Freak (But I Can't Help Myself) is a song I like for a few good reasons My top choice though is Here I Am. I think I was in love with my first true love affair at the time it came out and when we danced to it, ahh l'amore, l'amore. :) 8)

Oh yeah baby!!!!!.....The solar sound - gotta luv that. Dynasty was a pretty good representative for that style too.
"In don't wanna be a freak" is the obvious choice and I still love it.
However, Dynasty's best effort in my opinion is the 1980 "Adventures In The Land Of Music" LP. It has both "Do Me Right", Groove Control" & "I've Just Begun To Love You" on it. Hard to compete with that!! :)

Oh...and since we're at BOA no. 100 now...what was the first one you ever did Paul? remember?

Add Love in The Fast Lane a real dancefloor scorcher and I've Just Begun to Love You.

If anything I liked Dynasty more than Shalamar 'cos they had a funkier edge. SOLAR was THE record label that carried disco forward into 1980. At last, disco music got to be good again.

All excellent choices so far. 'Love In The Fast Lane' was rather underrated. Does That Ring A Bell...?

Actually, I don't have to remember K-Bee. Before my Diana screw up I started making a list when it became clear that this was turning into a weekly thing. Anyway, take a guess it is really, really easy :D

    Tall Paul,

Was it HRH Miss Donna Summer???? Nah, I don't think so. She came later. Maybe Chic?

Marky, your first guess was correct. The queen of disco, Donna Summer was my first artist.

I like "I Don't Wanna Be A Freak" because it's fun but I'm crazy for "I've Just Begun To Love You". Everything about this song is hot. Man, I used to play this... I used to sing this... the song was always in my head. :D

Immediately when I first heard "I don't wanna....", I bought it but.... I didn't and don't play it often. I don't know why but it doesn't catch me like Shalamar did.

"I've just begun..." is better but ... no.

    Not my favourite group :-?

"When I hear that percussion, it gets me into the groove..."

I lOOOOOOOOVE "I Don't Wanna Be A Freak (But I Can't Help Myself)" --but everytime I hear it now I think of Tall Paul's response when I asked him if he was a "buttlicker"?. (cause he kept referring to women's butts as "good eatin")

His response? The song title.

Our US cousins call them Die-nasty apparently.

I loved "I've just begun...", and that sort of polished American disco was a joy to hear. But I have to agree with Videoskooter, in that Shalamar was just that bit further ahead. They along with the Whispers, really tippified that SOLAR sound. It was clean, crisp, and solid. Too bad the TV serious wasn't as good. :P

    Thank you Mr. Slyvers III

My favourite Dynasty tracks were 'Satisfied', 'Its Still A Thrill' & 'I Dont Wanna Be A Freak...'. They went a bit downhill after 1980 IMO, as did Solar generally. (became less disco, more r'n'b.)

Love the title cut to "Adventures In The Land Of Music". Yeah, more r'n'b, but that string and horn stab is classic.

Angie Stone sampled it on her cut "Lover's Ghetto" from her "Stone Love" CD this year.
