    Disco nights

I just had me a real disco night… it featured:

    Salazar – 1, 2, 3
Tamara – Everybody love’s a dancer / Same time same place
Abbe – You make it hard to love you
    Night force – Dance
La Bionda – One for you, one for me
Lorraine Johnson – Feed the flame
Martin Circus – Ite missa est
Rinder & Lewis – Blue steel
Young & Company – Strutt your stuff, Checking you out
DD Sound – Café (Jonathan Fearing remix)
    THP – Dancin’ is alright
Theo Vaness – I’m a bad bad boy (never realized how “gay” the lyrics were…)
Azoto – San Salvador, Soft emotion (OK I played the whole album)
Nightlife Unlimited – Love is in you (album version)
    Carol Lloyd – Score
France Joli – Come to me
Frankie Valli – Soul (does anybody know who the “special guest appearance by Mystery Person” is, as mentioned in the credits??)
Easy Going – Fear (Jellybean remix), I strip you
Jimmy Maelen – Squeeze play (who knows this song too?? It ROCKS!)
Cappuccino – He’ll dance with me, Lucky woman, Gorgeous thing’s (who knows them… I love this album)
Al Hudson & The Partners – Happy feet (I have said it many times before, this has got to be one of my alltime favorite disco tracks)
And to top it off jazzy style: Al Hudson & The Partners – Rock (cheeezzz, I wish I had seen them (as Al Hudson or One Way) live just once, that must have been something)

I just noticed… almost all these songs were released between 1977 and 1981. Well, I had fun… and now my ears are beeping. Comments more than welcome!

Disco-nights should all be as good as yours :D

OMG-Theo Vaness, the old leadsinger of The Shoes. I got another one by him "As long as its love".

I'm having a disco-evening too: "Live at the Paradise-garage" ( for the 12th time this week-I luuuuuuuuuv that mix) and DJ Spinna's "Strange Games & Things" which concludes the best track of Love Unlimited Orchestra ever "Strange games & things" and the vastly underrated songs by Minnie Riperton "Reasons" and "Mademoiselle" by Foxy.

Theo Van Es is from Holland and joined Dutch band The Shoes in the 60's. They were a pop band that can be compared to George Baker Selection ("Little green bag").

After splitting up with them in the 70's he formed another band Teddy Lane, rejoined them in 1976 but left them again do become a discosinger. As Theo Vaness he signed with a French recordlabel and made the album "Back to the music" in 1978.

In 1979 he scored again in Europe and USA with the album "Bad bad boy" which contained the floorfiller "As long as its love" , considered as a gay anthem. If the man himself was gay? I don't know. :) As the record became massive in the States he was invited to do a great tour there but became homesick and returned to Holland. That was the end of his promising career as a discostar. He then did other musical projects and reformed (again) with The Shoes.

Thanx 4 the info videskooter; isn't it amazing how artists can be so big one minute & virtually forgotten the next? (as far as the public are concerned anyway). I don't think Theo did much here in the UK unless a UK member knows otherwise. :-?

    Videoskooter:
Thanks for the brief history about Theo Vaness. I knew absolutely nothing about him.

There was a great disco here in Rio during the 70's (Sótão) "ran" by famous brazilian DJ Amandio, which played massively NO ROMANCE JUST WANNA DANCE (I think that was the name of the song). Great music. I remember it had a sax solo in the middle. I have the album. Have to hear it again.

Marteen: Don't know everything from your list, as it is not mainstream, but BLUE STEEL by Rinder & Lewis is toooooo beautiful (and also it is not mainstream disco by any means).
