I was looking at the playlist for the 2004 Pier Dance and there's a song called "Lean On Me" by Main Ingredient.

I'm assuming this is a remake. Has anyone heard it?

I'm only familiar with the Bill Withers and Club Nouveau versions.

Is it newly recorded or an oldie?

doesn't appear on any chart LP they made between 70-77.
It could be an oldie maybe on some obscure LP they made that did not chart for which I would not have any info unfortunately.. :(
