    Just being self indulgent...

I don't want to seem self indulgent here, but I really need to tell fellow disco fans of the 5 records I have been most happy with that I have freshly discovered this year. I narrowed this down,so here they are. Opinions welcome!

FREDDIE JAMES Get Up And Boogie LP
I was kind of expecting a trashy effort from the look of the cover but Tony Green did excellent production and heaps of cool strings providing the very funky title track and "Hollywood" Very cool.

DENNIS PARKER New York By Night
I found this one 4 days ago and I love it! Some of the music by the whole Morali/Belolo/Rome thing was very samey with The village people but this and "Like An Eagle" are really interesting records, New York is very uplifting.

EDWIN STARR Its Called The Rock 12"
I loved the 7" but this is much better. So funky and fast.

    CHER Take Me Home 12"
I was really impressed by this on the Tony Humphries Choice cd along with MASS PRODUCTION Welcome To Our World and STEPHANIE MILLS You Can Get Over. Take Me Home is so romantic.

    LOU RAWLS You'll Never Find
"You're gonna miss my lovin..." Cool. Others in the soul disco genre i fell in love with this year were GENE CHANDLER Does She Have A Friend and JOHNNY BRISTOL Hang On In There Baby

I've also had brief obsessions with Diana Ross, Tina Charles, Prince and Sylvester after I found some excellent albums by each (except prince which was just a single)
Thanx 4 reading!! Lloyd, Australia, AKA boogienites

So the Freddie James LP is worth it? I only know the two songs you mentioned, which I like. Will look for it at the fair, then...
About Prince, all his LPs prior to "Purple Rain" are reccomendable (of course the others are too :) ), specially "Dirty mind" (1980) and "Prince" (1978). "Dirty mind" is disco boogie on a roll and "Prince" a good sample of all the styles he would dig in later, plus the disco hit "I wanna be your lover".

I don't remember the Edwin Starr track. Have to check and see if I have it. "You'll Never Find..." is classy and classic. Always a favorite.

You've certainly hit on a timeless classic with that Lou Rawls track!

Nice to hear Gene Chandler and "Does She have A Friend" mentioned. That was very popular with my friends and I a.k.a the Jazz Pilgrims - back in the day! :D

You can see Cher performing " Take me home" live in her latest DVD,they even do a pretty long version.

Also check out Lou Rawls follow up "I'll see you when I get there" this was also a club hit at the time.
