in my experience, that would be "Happiness"
Hi there,
can you please tell me which Pointer sisters song most played in garage setlist, back in Garage's heyday (and The sisters heyday too)
Or which song you think suits the spirit of a Garage-inspired party best. (eventho in reality they dont play it much at the Garage)
in my experience, that would be "Happiness"
hi thank you,Originally Written by sfbeary
i was thinking of Happiness too ! do you know what songs usuallu came before and after Happiness ?
any other idea other than Happiness ?
i can't remember the other songs larry would play with "Happiness," but he'd also play a cut of theirs from the 1980 Special Things LP, "We've Got the Power" that also embodied the Garage spirit. most people don't remember that one, but it's quite nice.
sfbeary is right again! This is a great piece of music that for some reason was overlooked by a lot of djs. I know The Rabbit and The Anvil appreciated it. :)Originally Written by sfbeary
In addition to the two titles already mentioned, I've read that "Dare Me" and "Automatic" were played at Paradise Garage.
There's a site that lists 1,000 titles played there.
Check out www.jahsonic.com site.
I have another list that I printed out at home a while back. It seems that a couple early Pointer titles like "Yes We Can Can" & "How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On The Side)" were on it. I'll check that tonight.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
These two were Gallery staples that Levan would have carried over to the Garage.Originally Written by markydefad
This is interesting. As much as I like the Pointer Sisters I never saw them as a disco act, whereas solo Bonnie Pointer definitely did 'disco' IMO! I must check out more Pointer Sisters records.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I looked at the Paradise Garage list I downloaded & printed out a few years back and checked the Pointer Sisters listings.
In addition to "Happiness", they listed "Fire" and I'm So Excited"...plus one more we've already mentioned but I can't recall now what it was. BUT, I know there were 4 and the two new ones were "Fire" & "I'm So Excited". Is that clear????? :P :P :P
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
"we've got the power" is also on that list - i think of that and "happiness" as garage records - i have too many outside/mainstream associations with the others.
i never much cared for "dare me," but a recreation of its hook is the basis of a recent UK pop/club hit, Junior Jack's "Stupidisco," and now it's stuck in my head.
Sandra Dee: I'd definitely recommend you check out some of the Pointers' albums that you should be able to find in the bargain bins of your local used music store. People tend to judge them by their most popular and best known songs, but I think some of their best songs are their least well known: "I Need You" has an absolutely passionate vocal, and "GoldMine" is so sassy it reminds me of some of Linda Clifford's best work. Their synthesizer based dance songs never did impress me much...
another one that I've gotten into because of a Robbie Leslie
mix is "Could I Be Dreaming".And again I will promote the
Bonnie Pointer track "Free Me(from my freedom)" if you haven't heard it.
