Best From Artist 99 - Imagination

Out of my sense of duty, I am starting this early because your lovable is liberal is taking a vacation for a few days.
I see from AMG (hate their new site by the way) that they were around in the 70s. I'd love it if you Brits would hip me to their early stuff. What I really like though is Instinctual. I can feel pure raw sexual energy in that song. Ya know I gotta dig that :P :D

I don't care about them. The radio played many hits in the early 80's but I never liked the songs to the point of making me buy the records.

I don't think I even remember the tunes, as never did any effort to pick up the records... still, there is one which I like: SO GOOD, SO RIGHT.

I never was a big Imagination fan either. The stuff sounds too similar too me. if I have to choose, i'd go for Body Talk and Flashback as well as the 12" house mix of Instinctual

BTW Paul....I hate the new AMG look too. :x

They were well corny. However, I do own one track by them - 'Burning Up'.

Their Body Talk album remains one of my favorites. Every cut except "I'll Always Love You (But Don't Look Back)" is just fine by me. My fave off the lp would be "So Good, So Right". Sleaze, baby, sleaze. :D Plus the title cut is extremely hot.

My better half on the other hand only wants to hear "Just An Illusion". He's always been nuts for it.

I'm posting mainly to chime in with

I HATE THE NEW AMG TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about ruining something that previously was soooo easy to navigate!!! Now whatever info you want takes soooo many tries to find. It used to all be there for you to click on. Now it's all compartmentalized...and ya gotta click here and there and back and there and here and back. It's still a wonderful resource. I just hate going there now.

    As for Imagination...

    Just An Illusion
    So Good, So Right
Body Talk (very sexy, sexy, sexy)
& I'm fond of one they don't list on their most recommended Greatest Hits package over at A  M  G  ...
    Lookin' At Midnight
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

They had fine laidback tunes. I always call them the pianodiscoboys. In the same league as Shakatak.

No wild dancing but relaxing. And composers Jolley & Swain were much more original than SAW (I hope they never come back :x )

"Tell me do you want my love" is one of their best songs.

i love most of the aforementioned tracks plus:

Changes (particularly the Larry Levan remix!)

    Music and Lights

    the entire Nightdubbing LP

    and

the promo-only Jonathan Fearing 12" remix of State of Love

Imagination were MAJOR at the Garage!

Maybe they did it to tell their investors: "see, now we have three times the clicks we had before the redesign". :)

Paul, I wonder who you reserved for your "Best of" # 100... Maybe the BEE GEES? Or you did them already? Anyway, it has to be something special.

Oh nearly forgot, my fave Imagination track is probably 'Heart 'n' Soul' from the 2nd LP but I like most of their stuff really (& I don't like too many UK acts generally). Can't believe that their producers/writers also did those dreadful Spandau Ballet tracks like 'Gold' & 'True'! :-?

Imagination were one of those UK bands that were much more popular around Europe than anywhere else. In England during their heyday between about 1981 and '84, their biggest chart hits were "Body Talk", "In and out of love", "Music and lights", "Changes", "Flashback", "Just an illusion", and "In the heat of the night" taken from the album of that name. Leee John caused more than a bit of controversy on the UK show Top of the Pops with some of his scanty and camp outfits whenever he appeared on it. In the late '80s, member Ashley Ingram left the group, and teamed up to write songs with fellow Brit Des'ree.

    I liked 'em.

Hi Nano. I already did the Bee Gees way, way, way back when. I guess you missed it
Hey, all these artist are special. They have brought joy and delight to many :)
When efunk takes charge, perhaps he will do some of the earlier ones I did especially because newer members didn't get a chance to add their 2 cents. There are still many artist I haven't gotten to so we'll see what direction efunk wants to take it.

    Hi,

IMAGINATION's best record is JUST AN ILLUSION - 99,9% of the other records they made are bad copies of their greatest hit.

    Peace,

zeca azevedo, life's just an illusion [just getting metaphysical...]

    Always Dug Them A Bunch

Along with Linx and Junior (and to a lesser extent, The Evasions), they were the main exports of Brit Funk of the early 80s. "Just An Illusion" is a keeper, as is "Flashback", "So Good So Right", "Flashback", and my personal fave, Illusion-sound-a-like "Music And Lights". I might even go as far as saying I liked "This Means War" a lot in the beginning, but was working in radio at that point and remember that it tested poorly.

Oooh...Don't get me started on the good ol' days of Brit-funk. If only they'd return.
