I noticed it's been a while since I started a new thread. I therefore think it's time to get into some of the other artist or music we liked from the "70s that weren't necessarily disco.

Tower Of Power - I just loved their horn section. Songs like So Very Hard To Go and What Is Hip are among my favorites.

Earth Wind & Fire - Not enough superlatives available to describe this super band.

War - All Day Music and Slipping Into Darkness are still on my frequent play list.

The Isley Brothers - It was a pleasure to look forward to the latest ballad released yearly every spring/summer from this group.

LTD - Love Ballad and We Both Deserve Each Other's Love. Enough said.

The Ohio Players - Hey Funkydude, I have the impression this has to be one of your favorite bands too.

I'm sure you guys will know of many more I didn't list or overlooked.

Why thank you. And since I just remembered some of the other 70s music I like, I will continue. First of all, I think the Rolling Stones' best work was from the 70s. Who can forget such classics as "Exile On Main Street" and "Some Girls"? Those are my two favorite albums of theirs. I also admit that I think that Rush's best work was in the 80s, but I like their earlier stuff too, so that's why I listed them. Also, there are lots of R&B acts from that decade that I like (besides the ones I already listed), such as the O' Jays and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, among others. There's too many artists and songs for me to list, so I'll end it here.

Although most of my record collection is disco and funk, some of it is 70's rock and hard rock as well. I enjoy a lot of 70's Australian rock like:

    Skyhooks

    Sherbet

    Stevie Wright

    Ray Burgess

    Hush

    early Little River Band stuff

    some Ted Mulry Gang

John Paul Young (not a disco artist but sang a few disco songs)

And I like British glamrock like:

    Sweet

    Slade

    some T-Rex songs

    some Mott The Hoople songs

    some Mud

    Suzi Quatro

    And some hard rock/heavy metal:

    AC/DC

    KISS

    Deep Purple

    Alice Cooper

I moreso watch the video clips of 70's rock songs than listen to them on record or CD.

Does anybody know why we haven't seen any new music from the wonderful Roberta Flack? Is she too busy playing DJ (or is she still doing that??!)?

Also, I just purchased two of the early Pointer Sisters albums, "Live At The Opera House" and "Steppin'," which are finally available as Japanese imports. A bit pricey but I've been waiting for their early Blue Thumb albums to come out for awhile.

    Steely Dan - FM

Double - Captain of her heart

Marshal & Hain - Dancing in the city

    Diesel - Sausolito summer night

    Dear Maarten

Most of those are some of my favorites also, especially the ones above, especially Marshall Hain-Dancing In The City (that whole album) and Diesel - Sausalito Summernight. The album version from "Watts In A Tank" is much better than the single version. Sausalito is a city in California, where I am from. I also love Japanese pop music; I have been there 3 times.

Things I listened to and liked back in the day:

-Prog pop things like The Alan Parsons Project, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Styx, and specially SUPERTRAMP, my favorite highschool band.

-Raunchy teenage rock like Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Crack the Sky, Cheap Trick, Little River Band...

-Things I considered "heavy" at the time  like Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Bad Company...

-The Beatles; plus Lennon and McCartney solo hits...

-Adult radio-friendly stuff like Billy Joel, Steely Dan, Gerry Rafferty ("Right down the line" is still one of my favorite songs of all time), Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, James Taylor...

-And many new wave (and a few punk) bands from the time: The Police, The Clash, 20/20, The Cars, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Motels, Gary Numan...

To make myself "different", I stated I did not like any Kiss, Queen or Emerson, Lake & Palmer. However, I had a weak heart for some ABBA and Rafaela Carrá stuff (ah, those were the days... )

Ennio Morricone, Astrud Gilberto, Armando Trovaioli, Burt Bacharach, Gilberto Gil, Azymuth, Eumir Deodato, Patty Pravo, Luis Bacalov, Piero Umiliani, Piero Picconi...all blasting from the 4-track stereo system of my brand new yellow Lamborghini '72, speeding towards Positano. Next to me on the cream couloured leather seat, the curvaceous Edwige Fenech in a figure-hugging Gucci catsuit, wind in her spectacular hair. I wish....

Jussik ..you just stirred a memorable vibrant flashback....

..... Arrived into my hometown , out of college for the summer ..... full of pep and vinegar .... the top down of my maroon ' 74 Fiat Spider ... Loleatta Holloway's "HIT AND RUN " jammin' at high volume . Cruised through the local popular park where for some reason a good sized group of young lads had gathered at curbside . I pulled up and stopped to talk, even though I knew none of them ... very unlike me ..... and yet it was just that kind of carefree summer day... Never got out of my car, but got to feeling very smitten with one of them and so I asked "Roland" if he wanted to go for a ride .....He jumped in off we went with Loleatta wailing away and thus began a wonderful unforgetable romance thru the entirety of that summer ........

wow I never replied to this thread... it must of gotten dug way to deep for me to reply.

so many to mention. I appreciated almost everything except for CLASSICAL & COUNTRY. I liked rock but just not to many layers down. I used to listen to AMERICAN TOP 40. so you can imagine why I liked it all.
