Best From Artist 98 - Jimmy Castor/The Jimmy Castor Bunch

    P-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L. Edgar Allen Pohh tenshal,
You a poh ass I say.

I just love that. Jimmy's songs have no middle ground for me. I either love 'em or I hate 'em. Along with Potential, I also loved Space Age. I was surprised this song didn't get played more often.

I'm afraid I only like two:

    1) "It's Just Begun" The original lp version with that symphonic prologue titled "Creation".

    2) "E-Man Boogie" I remember playing with the lights to this one. All that wild percussion in the lead out. Fantastic! Can someone confirm if there was a 12" of this different than the album or am I imagining I saw one?

'Potential' is a bit of a classic on these shores also. I must admit, I really liked 'E-Man Boogie, '82' and 'E-Man Boogie, '83' (Salsoul 12"s, Nicky ). They were pretty gutbucket.

    It was a great band.

    But...... "Troglodyte" ???? Anyone??? No????

The mother of all grooves, the funk that hits you in the face.

Back in the time..., caveman, cavewomen, troglodytes,

"When he was tired dancin' all be himself....Gotta find a woman....Move....She got up, she was a big woman, her name was Bertha!"

    Just looooooooooove that guitarpicking!!! :D

Jimmy Castor's style has quite a funny sort of edge to his songs which tells stories of Bertha Butt, Luther, E-Man etc....

Anyways my favourites of him include:
    Troglodyte (Cavemen) 1972
    It's Just Begun 1972
    E-Man Boogie 1974
    Bom Bom 1975
    Potential 1975
    King Kong 1975
    Space Age 1976
    Maximum Stimulation 1977
    E-Man Partay 1977

A couple of his songs I thought were a real cack    are:
    Bertha Butt Boogie 1974
King Kong 1975

Lastly commenting on "Troglodyte Cavemen" there seems to be two versions, the original 1972 version which I think had a psychedelic guitar sound and an updated version which had the really cool fast funky guitar scratching rhythm. Just wondering when did Jimmy release this version?

Did anyone see the main article on Jimmy Castor in the recent edition of GrandSlam?

Starts with the immortal words 'What we're gonna do right here is go back, way back, back into time...', then proceeds to tell the whole story from end to beginning!

Really interesting piece, which highlights his association with truly legendary figures like Frankie Lymon and Jimi Hendrix.
