Could this be "The Mexican" by Babe Ruth ?
That has a guitar begining that then becomes a very rhythmic piece. Huge hit in New York in the late 70's early 80's.
I got refered to this forum by someone else. I'll paste my post here:
Well, I heard it on the radio about a week ago and I remembered a part of the lyrics. Looked it up on Google, did a search on the Internet for the song and many people had it. Unfortunately I forgot the song's name now, even though I really want to hear it. I assume it's quite popular, so here it goes:
If I remember correctly it's starts with an acoustic guitar piece and continues with a techno/dance type of style. I had difficulty placing it in a genre. The vocals are male and the whole thing sounds quite energetic/high. Gave me a bit of a summer feel. So does this ring a bell for anyone? A dance song with a small guitar part in it...
I don't think it's too old, but it's probably not in the current Top 40 either. I only heard it on the radio once and never heard it before. But it sounded catchy as hell!
Thanks all!

Doesn't sound like "The Mexican"....BTW, the disco version would be the one by The Bombers, not the Babe Ruth version.

I am not familiar with the version by the Bombers and am curious as to how that version would be the "official" disco version? Babe Ruth's was very good and did have the soft guitar intro.
"The Mexican" by Bombers, 11:57, 1978, West End Records. For clubs, this was the version to play.
i don't mean to be a spoil-sport, but "the mexican" is way off from what this guy is asking about - the babe ruth version (which for me was always THE version, despite the club-conscious bombers remake) is sung by a woman, and it has nothing to do with "techno/dance," which is what the guy mentions, along with the record being "not too old."
you'll have to give us more info. there are plenty of catchy, energetic techno/dance records with male vocals and bits of acoustic guitar.
In a roundabout way, there was disco in Babe Ruth's bones. Singer Ellie Hope would later front Liquid Gold. :)
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Babe Ruth's First Base LP (with "The Mexican") credits Jennie Haan as the vocalist, not Ellie Hope.
on 1975's Stealin' Home LP (with "Elusive"), she's credited as Janita Haan.
Ellie Hope joined Babe Ruth on the album after "The Mexican".
The Babe Ruth version of "The Mexican" (Alan Shacklock interpolating Ennio Morricone's Per Qualche Dollaro In Piu) was not played in clubs, AFAIK. Versions that were would be those by The Bombers, Disco Circus and Jellybean, as well as the deconstructionist version by Lemon Orange.
Again, this is moot as the song that Takemyhand is probably not "The Mexican", as I stated earlier.

Thought about which song this could be.....taking a wild stab and saying "Can You Party" by Royal House, but the acoustic break comes mid-song, not at the beginning.

Ellie Hope did join Babe Ruth, but not until their fifth and last album, *Kid's Stuff*. "Ellusive" on the fourth album i mentioned was an underground nyc club hit (and apparently a northern soul hit now derided by the purists), but *Kid Stuff* didn't make any kind of dent in american clubs.
Babe Ruth's "The Mexican" was most definitely played in clubs, at least in nyc - that's why it was remade so many times. jellybean used to play it at the Funhouse and that's why he got the original singer Jennie Haan to sing on his remake.
"can you party" is over 15 years old - the guy who started this thread writes "i don't think it's too old."
No that's not it, sorry.
You should think more in the direction of (I'm not too familiar with trance) Dj Tiesto's - Love Comes Again. It's that kind of energetic feeling and vocals.
It's so strange I'm not hearing this song played more often on the radio. To my ears it has great hit potential. The world is a strange place...
Which part of the lyrics did you remember when you googled it? It might help if you let us now what they areOriginally Written by takemyhand

Thanks SF, I honestly don't ever remember Babe Roth's version being played in any clubs once the Bombers version was released....makes sense that ot may have been played before that since it pre-dates iot about 3 years.
As I already said in my first post, "The Mexican" is a moot point because it's clearly not what Take was asking for. I also said "Can You Party" was just a guess....I have no idea what this song could be.

That's the thing: I don't remember! I tried looking in my Internet History Files, but couldn't find it anywhere. If I knew only a little I would be able to find it. Now all I know is that it sounded nice... :(Originally Written by Art Figueroa
I heard it again on the radio yesterday. So I wrote down "I promised myself. I promised I'd wait for you" and looked it up on Google. The song is from the '90s, but in 2003 they've made a remix.
Nick Kamen - I Promised Myself (2003 Remix)
That's the one. The only charts it is in is the Belgium Top40 (for one week). The song was also covered by A-Teens and Mona Lisa among others.
Thanks all! (and yeah I was totally wrong about the acoustic guitar.. probably mixed it up with some other song)
Also found a musicvideo here of a 2004 Remix (???) yeah many remixes hehe:

Hey take, I figured you might hear again on the radio. I was curious about this because I happen to like Tiesto's Love Comes Again.
I did a search on Amazon.com and here is a link
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...401555-7063917
This one has a release date of July 20th.
The next link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=music
This has a release date of May 31, 2004, but it also has a wait period of 1 to 2 weeks and no track listing.
Good luck finding it and when you do drop me a PM and let me know where you found it.
