Can anyone tell me if and why 'Strawberry Letter #23' does not appear on any of the Brothers Johnson LP's? I have the first three LP's, which may be all if I recollect, and none feature the song. I have the song on a 7 inch, however, I know there is a longer version. Was it only released as single and if so, I'm assuming there is a 12 inch version? Very surprising for the time and the fact that the song was so popular.

    Sammy,

There is a 12" single (on red vinyl) of Strawberry... My copy is on A & M and has "Strawberry Letter 23" (5:08) b/w Get the Funk Out Ma Face (6:01) #SP12003 circa 1977.

    Blaxman and Bernie:

Thanks for the info; Blaxman, now that you mention it, I do remember seeing that LP at record conventions and never bought it. I must have assumed it was after the third LP I have with 'Stomp' and that it was towards the tail end of their career. Since I'm not at home I thought 'Blam' was released in '77.

Sammy, the brothers are in yellow clothes on the cover of the "Right On Time" album.

    "BLAM!!" is from 78.
    BTW: Great album!

    Take care,

    Blaxman

The Strawberry Letter 23 12" was unique with its Strawberry vinyl and Strawberry scent.

Funny, after 25 years, I wish I can get the scent back from its original days.

Get the funk out my face was a favorite of mine.

Ha, just like Madonna's "Like A Prayer" CD which had a perfume scent to it. I helped manage a record store at the time and the smell was annoying, but now just like you wish my CD still had the scent. Perhaps if I had kept it sealed in it's long-box?

Bernie, your presence of acknowledgement makes me feel better. I didn't know that, thanks.

I too have this album which I bought from Dapto markets for $2 where I live in Australia. It's a fantastic album, and I too dig the supercool funky afro hairstyle's and the yello flares, I wish I looked like that, unfortunately I look like a beer drinkin' yobbo because I have a big gut because I eat too much and crave chocolate. Anyhow getting back to the album, some of my favourite grooves are:
    Right On Time
    Strawberry Letter #23
    Brother Man
    Runnin' For Your Lovin'

I love the funky guitar work in the song "Never Leave You Lonely".

Brothers Johnson had two big hits in Australia:
    Strawberry #23 1977
    Stomp 1980

My other Brothers Johnson Favourites are:
Get The Funk Outta Ma Face 1976 (Their funkiest cut yet)
Thunder Thumbs & Lightnin' Licks 1976
    Dancin' & Prancin' 1976
I'll Be Good To You 1976
    Ride-O-Rocket 1978
Ain't We Funkin' Now 1978 (I love the Mr Bass man bit)
    Streetwave 1978
    Stomp 1980
    Light Up The Night 1980
    The Real Thing 1981
    Funk It 1982
