    Mike on trial

So it's been more than a week since Michael Moore's controversial "Fahrenheit 9/11" hit USA theaters. The critics response seems to be mixed. Did any of you guys see it already? Care to comment?

    Hey Nano,
At the risk of sounding like a know it all, which I'm not, I am very familiar with the issues raised in Micheal's movie based on what I've heard. As a result I was not in a hurry to see it.
The reaction to this in this country seems to depend on ones politics. Liberals like it, conservatives hate it.

Haven't seen it yet but I plan to in the near future. Michael Moore is definetely having a lot of fans here in Europe, and he even managed to win the best movie award at the cannes film festival. It can be all bad, I suppose

I've seen it-it's very funny but also very scary.

I wonder if it's really going to have a big compact on the elections.

    But it's strongly recommended!!!

Sorry but my admission money went to charity instead of this leftist propagandist’s pockets.

Singer Linda Ronstadt said something similar and got booed at a Vegas casino , people on the way out ripped her posters and tossed drinks at the stage , and to top it off, later the Casino owner kicked her out of her Luxury suite and kept her off his property for "spoiling a wonderful evening for our guests" , way to go! maybe she can tour with the Dixie Chicks now,

Don’t you love this Limousine left wing liberal entertainers, they preach socialism for every one else while they live the good life hiding behind the constitution and their millions.

    My reply to the above:

Yes folks it's come to this. Say something the POWERS THAT BE don't like and they fire ya, yank the program off the air, escort you out of the building. Shall I "Jump the shark" and invoke the Nazis?

Howard Stern dares to criticize Bush and he's suddenly dropped from all the Clear Channel stations and levied with fines for obscenity.

Then "The Reagans" miniseries was deemed too unreverential for network TV; CBS caved into the demands of Right Wing fanatics and yanked it. Showtime aired it once; it got 7 Emmy nominations. IF ya don't have Showtime; the Right Wing made sure you can't se it and decide for yourself. They know best--NOT YOU.

Then Whoopi Goldberg's dirty mouth (wut's new?) made some "Bush/vagina" jokes at a Democratic fundraiser. SlimFast fired her as their spokesperson. The well-organized letter-writers of the Rush/Ann Coulter ilk saw she got payback.

Now poor little Linda Ronstadt dares to mention Michael Moore's (the Right Wing's new fave DEMON--better than the DEVIL for fund-raising) name during a concert in Las Vegas and she's fired & thrown out of the Hotel.

Yep, it's come to this. Dissent must be punished. Free speech exists only as long as it cowtows to the Fox Network party line. What's next?

Hopefully a regime change. Or divide the damn country in half. I don't wanna visit any RED STATES, thank you very much. Let them secede and watch Fox TV and listen to Rush and watch Mel Gibson movies. Please--it's the only Fair & Balanced thing to do. :P

Paging Solomon--cut this baby in half.

    Marky,

You're my man! :D As I said, 'keep on keepin' it real' and remind the Regime that we supposedly have something called "FREE SPEECH". Oh, wait a minute, we also have a 'Separation of Church and State' (duh?). Well, at least until those mailing lists get sent to 'the republic'-ans. Somebody better start demanding tax money from the Falwellian institutions of this country or demand they shut the hell up.

    Yeah, Nicky....

When the voicing of political opinions by the likes of Linda Ronstadt is considered "subversive & unAmerican" just because they oppose the current administration, it's the end of the world as we know it.

Linda Ronstadt = Kate Smith for the new millennium.

This is from today's NY Daily News:

    Linda gets Moore support
"Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore is aflame after hearing that Las Vegas' Aladdin Hotel & Casino ejected Linda Ronstadt. As we told you yesterday, Aladdin security showed the singer the door when she hailed Moore as her "Desperado."
Blasting the move as "stupid and un-American," Moore told the Aladdin president in a letter: "Invite her back and I'll join her in singing 'America the Beautiful' on your stage. Then I will show 'Fahrenheit 9/11' free of charge to all your guests."
Moore is also trying to arrange a screening near President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tex.

Now that Communists have, for the most part, gone the way of the dinosaur (except those pesky Chinese)..

The RIGHT WING REPUBLICAN's must do battle with:

    1) MICHAEL MOORE (THE ANTI-CHRIST)
    2) HOLLYWOOD LIBERALS (they have too damn much money & big mouths)
    3) HOMOSEXUALS (threatening the foundation of Western civilization with their demand for equal rights for equal payment of taxes.)
    4) The ACLU (American Civil Liberties union)--(the cause of all they feel is wrong with America; However, IRONICALLY the ACLU rushed to the defense of RUSH himself --their biggest CRITIC-- when his medical records were being sought by investigators in his DRUG case. Who's hippo-critical now?) :P
    5) THE FRENCH (don't vist the country, wear their clothes, drink their wine or eat their FRIES. "They'se "FREEDOM FRIES" not "FRENCH FRIES" you commie". :P :P :P

The Linda Ronstadt incident seems rather much ado 'bout nuttin' since she was only hired to do ONE show. She performed that whole show and only during the intro to the ENCORE song, "Desperado", did she mention Michael Moore. :o

Therefore, there was no obligation for further shows at the bankrupt Vegas casino. Why the need to eject her from the premises? Sounds like a desperate cry for "la publicitie' " as the Countess De Lave would say. (That's a very GAY reference from "The Women".)

This seemingly unbelievable story makes no sense. Everybody knows Linda makes political statements at her concerts, just like countless other artists do. Evicting her instantly from the hotel, and not even allowing her to return to her hotel room to pick up her personal items was a shockingly terrible thing to do, and makes no sense either.

They should have of course evicted the few crazy patrons who threw their cocktails into the air, ripped up the poster signs, and caused all the ruckus instead. It was these few drunk nutcases in the audience that "ruined the show", not Linda. Can you imagine not being allowed to go back to your hotel room to retrieve your personal items?

To be honest, over here in Europe we are following the American politics and everyday we are more and mo(o)re amazed when we see what's happening over there.

Terrorism must be fought at any price but the things the American government is trying to establish are far beyond that cause.

It seems to me that the USA is runned by fundamentalistic preachers who are trying to order everybody to live their lives as they want it.

International laws are not important. Freedom of speech is not important. You can not choose your partner. You can not criticise. You must be a patriot and they will tell you how to do it!

Be very careful with people like that because American democracy is going down!

And I know Michael Moore is a millionnaire and sometimes he 's a manipulator too. But at least he's fighting back and I hope that the next dynamic duo will be Kerry/Edwards.

If elections aren't stopped by the republicans that is (or stolen like 4 years ago) :o

Reports of casino incident not accurate, Ronstadt says

Singer Linda Ronstadt was not asked to leave a Las Vegas casino Saturday after she endorsed Michael Moore's controversial film "Fahrenheit 9/11," the Tucson native told the Tucson Citizen yesterday. And she was not booed off the stage by a concert crowd that had erupted in mayhem, she said.

Speaking by phone from San Francisco, Ronstadt said that she left the Aladdin Resort & Casino immediately after the concert and was not aware that the management was irritated by her comments until an hour after she left the show.

Aladdin management declined to comment on the incident yesterday, referring the Citizen to a statement issued Monday.

    The statement reads, in part:

"Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse her political views. In an effort to diffuse the situation, Linda Ronstadt was asked to leave the property immediately following her performance."

Ronstadt says she has made the same pitch about Moore's film at each previous show in her summer tour, just before the encore, "Desperado." The audience reaction has been a mixture of boos and cheers, she said.

"I've been doing it all across the country, and I've never seen an audience response like this in my life. This country is so completely polarized," she said.

"As soon as I start singing, ‘Desperado,' they love (the song) and they start cheering, which they've done all through my career. That's how that works, and then I finish the song and I leave."

The Los Angeles Times and Associated Press reported that Ronstadt was escorted off the property, not allowed to return to her room and booed off the stage and that people were throwing drinks by the close of her show.

None of those things happened, she said.

By her account, she had originally planned to fly out after the show to the next city on the tour but a sinus problem prompted her doctor to cancel that plan. One of her aides then booked her a room at the Aladdin, which she never saw.

After the concert, she went backstage and was about to head to the car provided for her by the Aladdin when she was confronted by an Aladdin employee.

"This woman comes huffing up to me and says, ‘I'm afraid I can't let you leave.' I said, ‘What?' And she said, ‘You can't leave yet because the owner is on his way over here to talk to you.' " the singer said.

She declined and left for the Ritz-Carlton in her tour bus when the employee said the Aladdin car would not be allowed to leave, Ronstadt said.

"I thought she was going to read me my Miranda rights or make me start writing things on the blackboard," she said.

"I didn't know they were mad at me until we were gone, and I didn't know what they were mad at me about until about an hour later, when apparently they called up one of the people that was traveling with us and went, ‘She's talking about Michael Moore, and this is a place for entertainment, not politics,' " Ronstadt said.

She has received support from a number of other celebrities, and the Aladdin's new owner, the owners of Hard Rock Cafe, called to ask her back, she said.

"Michael Moore called me and said he would go with me. We could sing, ‘America the Beautiful' together and he would screen his movie for free for anyone who wants to come and see it," she said.

"Irving Azoff, who is the Eagles' manager, immediately pulled all his acts from the Aladdin. I've had phone calls and messages from all over. Elton John sent me flowers last night. Keith Richards, Sting - the list goes on and on of people pouring in support."

She insists she was only trying to get people to think.

"I think (celebrities) should try to get people to think. I think they need to bring information to the public, she said. "The American media has been completely hijacked by corporate interests. The news is so biased, and we've got to get it through any way that we can.

"Now I don't think somebody should take my word. Because I'm a singer doesn't necessarily make me an expert in world politics, though I'm well read. But I think my obligation at this point is to try to steer people into just thinking."

She notes that while some concert promoters have asked that she not endorse Moore's movie at their venues, there is no language in her contract prohibiting her from doing so.

"I'll damn well say what I please, as I always have," she says. "And if they cancel my show, they'll just be doing me a favor. They'll still have to pay me, and I could use a day off. I have no idea how ticket sales are going, and I never worry about record sales."

Apparently not everyone is upset with the soft-rock star.

Ronstadt sang to a full-house Tuesday night at Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, and the crowd reserved its longest and loudest ovation for her endorsement of Moore's film, the Los Angeles Times reported yesterday.

Linda is currently performing in the San Francisco area where she is well-loved, and will certainly be well received. I highly doubt there will be any ruckus-causing nutcases in the audience, if there was ever any truth to that original story.

    Tonight: Livermore
    Friday: Saratoga
    Saturday: San Rafael

    Go see the show!

Second, I too read Linda's account of the incident in the LA Times yesterday. I think the manager of the BANKRUPT Aladdin Hotel was seeking to get their name in the papers. And curry favor with RIGHT WING conventions. Bring us your John Birch Society & Pro Life conventions....we threw out that pinko commie, remember????

Unfortunately in that report Linda left out a comment that really shows her true colors, and that of her two faced left wing millionaire supporting her.

“It is a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is Republican or Fundamental Christians. It can cloud my judgment, I rather not know”

And yet she’s compel to spew out her endorsement of an Ultra-leftwing propagandist that not even the Kerry campaign, the most liberal presidential ticket ever, wants any association with… They are all a bunch of millionaire cynics pushing their vision of perfect Utopia on the unsuspecting masses. Of course if the experiment fails they can always count on their millions and to hell with everyone else.

I know is hard to find the facts through all the clutter of left wing spinsters’ propaganda out there, especially in Europe, but if you care to invest the time to better understand what happened the facts are easily available for any one to research.

Fact: A group of independent Newspapers including some of the most Liberal in the USA like the Miami Herald, conducted an independent re-count after the 2000 election of Florida vote and confirmed that the Bush campaign won the Florida State vote fair and square, regardless of any court decisions, they even presented the New President in the White House a commemorative plaque with the re-count findings.

Hmmmm...loks like we've got some spinning goin' on here too.

First off, Linda's comment was about a Republican performer not audience members. She said it could be distracting to know a performer's political affiliation when going to their concert. She said she'd prefer not to know. But she says she makes her own political statement at the very end of the show just before "Desperado" to stir the audience to think.

As far as millionarie fatcats go, have ya seen the footage of GW Bush's speech at a fundraiser where he addresses the assembled as "the Haves" and the "Have Mores"; I call you my base." ?(chuckle, chuckle, chuckle).

Teresa Heinz-Kerry summed this money matter up aptly on "60 Minutes" when asked if her billions would unduly influence the election; she said the Republicans had no trouble taking her money when she was married to a Republican--the late Senator Heinz. Now it's somehow wrong????

    Verbatim!

"My career has befuddled other people, and it's befuddled me," admitted Ronstadt, 58, who finds her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.
"I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

    Mixmachine,

I read Miss Ronstadt's quote in the LA Times yesterday. I remember thinking "Jeez, that's just how I feel". Maybe I misread it??? I will get it tonight and read it again. But the quote you provide makes no sense. Why would she care about the religious beliefs of other audience members at a concert she's attending? The problem was knowing you were seeing a act you liked--say some country singer--then finding out they were ultra-right wing. She said that new knowledge can tend to negatively color your perception of them. I totally understand. Certain singing acts and actors who suck up to the Right Wing give me the creeps when I see them now that I know their politics. James Woods is one. I wonder " how can you think that way?" :o

To each his own. But the point of her quote I thought was that it's better not to know a performer's politics because knowing the truth may cause you to have a bias against them. I think that's very true and reasonable. I'm sure it's the same on the Right. You all don't much care for Barbra Streisand now, do ya?

Significant point of clarification Mixmachine. I remember reading the results of the newspaper recounts. Bottom line was, if Gore got the narrow regional recounts he wanted, shrub would have won the count. If as the shrub team had argued, the entire state get recounted, they would have lost and Gore won.
This of course ignored issues like thousands of people, disproportionately Black, who were not allowed to vote because the were falsely put on a felons list. I heard talk show host Randi Rhodes (who is white) talk about seeing her former husband (who is Black) turned away when they went to vote in 2000. She said they both registered at the same time and when that happened then heard later in the day what was happening in the state, she knew the fix was in!
Check out Greg Palast. Our friends in Europe may be more familiar with his work. His documentary shown in Europe but blacklisted in the states reveals the 2000 shenanigans by the banana Republicans. Sorry for that broad swipe some of you who may be Repubs but whenever I'm reminded of 2000 it bugs the **** out of me!
