AMG has a quick-read bio on Rod Temperton. Tells about his beginnings with the group Heatwave and mentions others he has worked with. Might help you out.
Hi, everybody. I really love disco / R&B songs written by Rod Temperton (rodsongs for short) I think he is so talented. I made a chart with my top disco rodsongs:
1- Love X Love - George Benson
2- Stomp - Brothers Johnson
3- Give Me The Night - George Benson
4- Rock With You - Michael Jackson
5- Spice Of Life - Manhattan Transfer
6- Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson
7- Off The Wall - Michael Jackson
8- Thriller - Michael Jackson
9- Groove Line - Heatwave
10- Boogie Nights - Heatwave
11- Lovelines - Karen Carpenter
12- Burn this disco out - Michael Jackson
Anybody else likes his songs? I want to know what your favourite rodsongs are. Maybe I'll discover new songs that I didn't know. Do you know of other artists that recorded his songs?

I like most of the songs on your list. Another guy pretty busy on those days was Chas Jankel, who co-composed "Ai No Corrida" for Quincy Jones and several disco/new wave hits for Ian Dury. Then he went solo with a great track called "Glad to know you".
Temperton recorded at least one solo album circa 1980. It went by the name Rod and the title was "Shake it up (do the bogaloo)". The title song was a disco hit and it certainly fits your list.
rod temperton is british - that "other" rod is nigerian.
i like them both, though!
Thank you! I almost fell of my chair with Nano's confusion. The Rod from Nigeria is actually Roch Niangandoumou. You can see why the artist's name was made just a tad more "commercial".Originally Written by sfbeary

My favourite Rod T.track is Quincy Jones's 'Razzamatazz' from his 'The Dude' LP. I also like Herbie hancock's 'The Bomb'. Oh & Anita Baker's 'Mystery' from her 'Rapture' LP. All the ones mentioned above are totally fab too; he's a genius! :P
...ya gotta beat the street......
YES!!! I LOVE RAZZAMATAZZ!! That song rocks! That should have been in my chart, definitely, maybe in position 7 or 8.Originally Written by Steely Dan
I never heard 'The bomb'. Is it disco?
I never heard 'Mystery' by Anita. Is it the same 'Mystery' that Rod wrote for Manhattan transfer? I like that, too.
Yep, Manhattan Transfer & Anita Baker both recorded "Mystery". It's the same old song.
I, too, love Rod Temperton's songs--such a class act. I long for the days when songs like these could actually be "hits". NOT TODAY, I fear.

Yeah, it's always funny when they find fault with something on page 2 that was dealt with on page 3....then respond on page 4, not having read page 3. :o
I've been guilty of this myself, I must confess.

Rod Temperton is a gentle-mannered white man from Cleethorpes. Outside the music industry virtually nobody has heard of him, but everyone knows his songs, including: Thriller, Give Me The Night, Boogie Nights and Off the Wall. This programme charts his journey from Cleethorpes to Los Angeles, with contributions from Quincy Jones, George Benson, Patti Austin and many more
The programme has been produced by Wise Buddah Creative in conjunction with Fresh Air Production.
Producer, Jed Pitman: “I was brought up listening to music by Rod Temperton and was amazed to find so few people knew of his output. Most people think that all of Michael Jackson’s hits were written by the man himself, not by a white guy from northern England. His was a story which needed to be told.”
