In the "Tribal Rites" book there is a chapter on Magda Layna. Has anyone ever heard her version of "When Will I See You Again"?

I have never heard of her or her version of the song.

Magda Layna's "When Will I See You Again" was pretty weak; I don't think we could give them away at Aloha. She was connected somehow to the in-crowd; I don't know how else she got a recording contract. Maybe she funded the project herself? I'm just guessin' !!!!!

Hey, that's all Mariah Carey needed to become a superstar...

I think it helps to be connected to the Columbian Drug Cartel.

A really nice cover of "When Will I See You Again" was done by The Dreamgirls in the early 1990's. It's on one of those Gay Happening CD's. Very tastefully done with synths and strong vocals, IMHO.

Well, as far as I am concerned, I LOVE Magda Layna's version of this song. True, she's not the greatest singer in the world, but hey, she sings better than I do and that's what matters to me.

The song itself is a bit weak musically, but that's mostly due to very generic beats. Fortunately, the synths are loud and Bill Motley did do a good job with the strings: very pretty and melodic.

I have the 12" and I remember it being very inexpensive (of course, I had the Adam Rush version of "Love Is In The Air", if anyone remembers THAT!) Also, I seem to recall a rumor running around that Magda was a guy; does anyone remember that?
