    Record shopping in Rome

In a few days, my family and I are taking a trip to Croatia, with a three-day side trip to Rome. For an Italo & Eurobeat lover such as myself, this is the chance of a lifetime. :D Any record stores you might recommend? What can I expect in terms of prices?

Check out METROPOL ROCK store at 72 Via Cavour, right by the main Stazione Termini railway station. Be prepared to spend hours inside. Upstairs, there's a couple of vinyl players too so you can listen before dishing out your euros - the place ain't cheap. Best section: the back room with it's literally thousands and thousands of 7-inchers.

If only I had known about the place!!! In fact I was staying near la Via Cavour and walked through it many times!!! The times I was in Rome I had cero luck finding any Italo disco (at least in the main music stores like Riccordi or La Feltrinelli), they did have like a CD with the top 20 Italo hits we all know, but the sellers didn't even know what Italo disco was :P

There's a huge CD store near Piazza del Popolo, just go through Via del Corso, also in front of Piazza Colonna on Via del Corso, you'll see a "Mall" with La Feltrinelli (from there you can walk to La Fontana).

In front of Largo Argentina (roman ruins with cats) you'll see another Feltrinelli store.

    Voyage :P

Metropol rock is a huge store but there's a loooot of garbage. Take care also to price, you might negotiate a little bit. If you're looking at Italian Disco that's the store for you. If you'll be in Rome on Sunday I strongly recomend also to have a look at Porta Portese market, where you can find a lot of records too.
I was in Metrolpol last year, I honestly did not find great stuff.... but my favourite is US dance, not really italo dico.

But if you go from Croatia to Italy through Ancona then check absolutely a record shop in Civitanova Marche called "Disco Story". This is an historical store, great records inside with a couple of turntables inside to listen before buying. This city is about 30 minutes far from Ancona but it worth the trip!

If youneed further informations, let me know.

    Ciao

The Porta Portese is especially good for seveninchers. If you arrive from the direction of the centre of town and push onwards thru the crowds persistently enough you'll notice a stall on your right hand side which only sells 7-inch singles. However, going thru them is a chore - a soon as you pick one up the staff fix their eyes on you. Either the skinny man or the massive matron with a bleached perm will turn to you, stare at your activities disapprovingly and amazingly, will begin tidying up the stack you are fingering. At first I thought it was just something about me but the duo seemed to do their act to every customer. Naturally, though they have a recordplayer spinning chachas from the 50's, listening to the vinyls is out of the question. - It's agreat location though, the Portese. Even Sergio Garrone, once notorious film director of sick expoloitation milestones like "Lager 5 Women's Hell" is selling hardware there now.
