When I was a kid, I used to hear this song played all the time in Europe, but it never seemed to make it to any disco CD compilations or top hits, or even disco sites. You've GOT to hear this one.

    Cheers,
The 7" version is on one of Rhino's compilations.

I've been trying to find the original 12" for over a year now...

Ah, you are just too late that's all. I've featured that song on this site in the past. Maybe in the future I'll play it again.

I've heard it; it's a good track. Lots of songs don't get mentioned here. You hear mostly of the post '76 Euro infliuence in this forum, but very little of the 73-75 Disco era. To some people, Disco started after 1975. Actually, Disco was alive and well as early as 1973.

"Automatic lover" was a huge european hit in the discos around 76-77. The record was originally released in Germany (I have the italian pressing on Durium). The album ("Cosmic curves") was released in Canada but not in the US, where only a 12" with a remixed version was released by AVI records. The US version is a very sought after record and sold for about US $ 80 last time I saw it on Ebay.
Another classic by DD Jackson from the same album was "Meteor man"

How about her later single, "S. O. S?"

I have this one as well. It's HORRIBLE! The original version by Dee D. Jackson far, far, better. Not only does Sylvia's version sound like it was recorded in someone's garage, but she can't sing her way out of a soap bubble!

All this talk about Dee D. Jackson led me to my collection to see If I had it.

As Graham mentioned, It's on the Rhino compilation "The Disco Years: Vol 5"--the version is only 3:56 in length.

I noticed that the song is also included on "The Best of AVI Records". Allmusic.com lists the timing as 5:01; I checked it on my CD player and it's 5:51.

Allmusic also lists the song being available on various Dee D. Jackson compilations. I don't know how readily available any of them are.

I couldn't agree with you more. It was horrible and I'm interested in hearing the version by Dee Dee Jackson.

I was very surprised to get all the great responses. Thank you. I think I might be more active in these forums. Automatic Lover was also included in the hard to get best Eurodisco album. Along with it came "One way ticket-Eruptions, and Fantasy-EW&F". I've been popping into Bernie's site almost when he first started out. Great to see the evolution.

The 'promo video' for Dee D Jackson's Automatic Lover was on TV the other night on a show that shows old pop music clips. Its tacky (well it was 1978!) but brilliant. The robot has to be seen to be believed! Apparently, she was from England. I always thought she was German.

This one's for my friend, BLAXMAN, who said I love DD JACKSON,

AUTOMATIC LOVER was a huge hit here in BRASIL. Her next single, METEOR MAN, was a hit too.

    Peace
