Best From Artist 95 - Curtis Mayfield

Wow. Boney M sure did invoke a reaction, mostly positive it seems.
This week's is a master musician who's work going back to the Impressions would have been enough to honor. As it is, since our emphasis here is 70s disco, his music was influential IMHO. Of course the Superfly soundtrack with the song of the same name as well as Freddy's Dead will always stand the test of time. My Best which is difficult with so many to choose from is Move On Up.

Ahhh, Curtis Mayfield, he's a legend :D :D :D !!! In the past I mentioned this that some of his early funky stuff from 1970 to 1972 had some raw elements of what would later be called "disco" just like Isaac Hayes with "Shaft".

"If There's Hell Below" is a prime example of what I personally call the early disco sound. Compared to other funky songs of 1970 this song sounds at least 2 years ahead of time in style of funk. This track belongs on the "Superfly" album :D !!! Anyways it has quite a good arrangement of strings, horns, funky guitar sound (used in many early/mid funk/disco songs), percussions with a smooth driving bassline and tambourines which all makes this song a great dance song.

Anyways some other great tracks I really enjoy of Curtis are:
    Move On Up 1970
We Got To Have Peace 1971
    Beautiful Brother Of Mine 1971
    Get Down 1971
    Superfly 1972
    Pusherman 1972
    Junkie Chase 1972 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
    Give Me Your Love 1972
    Back To The World 1973
    Future Shock 1973
    Kung Fu 1974

Curtis Mayfield's "Do it all night" LP from 1978 was when he really got into disco in a big way.

From this LP, check out the remarkable "No goodbyes", which even made the Top 75 Pop Charts in the UK, and is easily found on 12 inch single on Curtom Records, Catalogue number "LV1".

    Dear Friends!
Here are tracks I like a lot:
    1)Superfly
    2)No Goodbyes
    3)Move On Up
    4)Party, Party
5)Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here(From "Short Eyes")
Similiar to Isaac Hayes he made lots of funky and even
    very good disco-tunes...
I think my absolute fave is "Love Me, Love Me Now"(1980)
Cosmic Love & Kisses From SIRIUS & DARKTUNES...

    "Wild and free"
    "If there's a hell below"
    "Freddie's dead"
    "Ain't no love lost"
"People get ready" (his live solo version)

Someone said "there's nobody like Curtis Mayfield to arrange strings and horns". He did a great job writing and producing Aretha Franklin's "Sparkle" soundtrack. One of the best records of both Curtis and The Queen of Soul.

Hey, hey. My other woman is back on the scene. Where ya been babe? Vacationing with Vin I guess
Oh, as for The Impressions I was just getting out of diapers when they were hitting it big. Their songs are just so good that they transcend generational limits.
