    Prince 2004ever

Since his tour hasn't reached Europe for the moment.

Does anyone on this forum has seen him strutting his stuff recently?

Of course we can read reviews in the press but what was your personal experience?

Is he really that good this time? Hard to imagine because I saw him several times in the past and he always funked us to the ultimate high.

    Did he do the impossible???

Did you guys feel that Prince's "return" is a bit overplayed in the media too? I have both "The rainbow children" (2001) and "Musicology" (2004) and don't see that much of a difference. In fact, being good albums both, I'd say that "Children" is a bit better, and both are far from his "Sign of the times" perfect songwriting days.
My take on this is that Sony is putting all the pressure possible to make a hit of its new signing. That means great hype in the media, and also the compromise of The Artist Formerly Known As Symbol to make a more or less "commercial" sounding album to hit the radio waves.

The media are definitely promoting Prince right now. An as Nano says, "Musicology" is excellent but "The Rainbow Children" and "NEWS" were brilliant. But is Sony pushing him? Nope. They have a very special contract. Prince owns the master of his recent album, Sony doesn't. They get a fixed amount of each copy sold but they don't have the risk of having lots of unsold albums. So they are pretty safe and so is the Funky One.
Prince has also the exclusive right to sell concertticket/cd combinations. As I heard from record company-executives this is a premiere-contract and it's profitable for both sides.
Now the major question is: Now that he has a great commercial success, will he go further on that road? Probably not-his musicclub perhaps may not be selling that much copies but he's earning much more on each copy then he did when he was with a major company.
