Paul,
This is the first time that I've heard of this group. The title songs aren't recognizable to me, maybe if I hear it I'll know them. Is ONE WAY early disco or mid 70's disco?
*DISCO DELIGHT*
OK Maarten, here we go.
One Way is this week's artist. I know they have dance hits like Cutie Pie and Push but I like them for the ballads we all "grinded to" between dance breaks. I started to go with "If You Play Your Cards Right" or "Guess You Didn't Know" but the song I remember getting nasty on the floor with and my pick is "Lost Inside Of You."
Find them and destroy them!

Hustlebaby,
One Way was the 4th group name for what began as Al Hudson & The Soul Partners (charted '76-'78); then became Al Hudson & The Partners (featuring Alicia Myers) (1979); then One Way featuring Al Hudson (1980) and finally One Way (1981-1988).
Paul, can we pick from any of the various incarnations of the group?
If so, my votes go to "You Can Do It" by Al Hudson & the Partners with the soulful wail of Alicia Myers ("whoa-whoa-whoa-WHOA-WHOAAAA--DO Your Thing Y'all"...Get up/let your body flow/you know you can do it/ like me/ meenie miney mo/ there's really nothin to it") one of my favorite dance songs in the sweaty morning category; Runner-up from the same LP: "Now That I've Found You" which I just recently became reacquainted with--gorgeous morning music.
From the funkier One Way: "Cutie Pie" is my fave, although I didn't follow them all that closely, so maybe I need to get a Greatest Hits compilation?

Thanks Paul. I always thought Al Hudson/One Way would be more mainstream. But judging by the few posts here, they are apparently a little obscure.
My favorite Al Hudson & The Partners song is "Happy feet". If there ever was a feel good disco track, this is it. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY should have heard this song at least once in their lives. It is also probably their only true disco track (like "Baby baba boogie" by Gap Band) as all their other stuff is much more on the funk side.
My other favorites include "Music", "Push" and (of course) "Let's talk about sex" (in the always-extra-prudent-and-pc-but-still-the-largest-global-porn-producing USA apparently released as "Let's talk about shhh"). And their "You can do it" is a timeless classic, whose riff was ripped off many times (Leon Haywood "Don't push it, don't force it", Wish and "Mr. DJ" and David Christie's "Saddle up").
On the schmooz side I choose "Who's fooling who".
Marky - thanks for the Alicia Myers lyrics. You wrote them like she belts them. Well done, I could hear her sing. She has an awesome voice.

Hey Delight. Marky pretty much covered my response to you. This group, perhaps of it's various incarnations sometimes gets lost in the discussion of music from that period. You've probably heard a couple of their hits like Cutie Pie, for example. On 2002-05-20 04:02, markydefad wrote:

Hey Marky, thanks for getting my back with info. Yes, you can pick from the various incarnations. I was just too lazy to type all the various names when I started this one.
Maarten, I'm not totally surprised by the reaction. It is refreshing to discuss artist like One Way who, are not totally obscure but frequently overlooked.

Maarten,
I LOVE THAT KEYBOARD RIFF, TOO!!!
It's just a constant 1-2-3-4 chord on the keyboards, but it was copied by a whole lotta folks, and strangely enough I liked ALL the records that ripped it off also.
Don't forget to add "Ladies Night" by Kool & The Gang to that list, released later in 1979.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Marky - you are so right. How could I have forgotten that one.
Now tell me you like "Happy feet"!

Maarten, I don't think I know "Happy Feet". I just looked at what I have and I don't see it. Maybe it's on a compilation? I have a track titled "Happy Feet" by Randy Crawford--is that the same song?
I guess I gotta go over to allmusic and check where it's available. Strangely, the LP I have is "One Way featuring Al Hudson" and has the 12" version of "You Can Do It" on it and the label says that song is from the LP "Happy Feet"!!!! Musta reissued it on the next LP, I'm guessing???!!!
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
For me the absolute stand out track from AL HUDSON AND THE SOUL PARTNERS was "Spread Love". A real serious rare groove track...
I also love "If You Feel Like Dancing". Totally infectious.
As for their ONE WAY days, at present I have re-discovered and am playing to death "Do Your Thang". "HUP-TWO-THREE-FOUR"!!! That base hook is so subtle - it just creeps up on ya!!
Definitely one of the better bands around!!
If it moves - funk it!!
Thanx Maarten, I didnt knew this track and reading your post I run for AG and download it. Fantastic track!! I know every One Way track, but Al Hudson's early just a few ones.On 2002-05-20 23:32, maarten wrote:
