    Camp Classics?

I'm trying to put a set together of some Camp Disco Classics; mainly fast stuff in the vain of:
Machine - There be for the Grace of God or
Donna Summer & Barbera Streisand - No More Tears (Enough is Enough)

can anyone help me out with some good suggestions, doesn't matter if they're rare or chart hits, once they make you want to dance like a ladie!

    thanks
    the Machineboy

re: what aexectly are you looking for

I'm looking for stuff that's kinda camp or gay orientated, but not Gloria Gaynor I will survive kinda camp...

If that makes any sense

    Machineboy,
If you're gonna refer to disco as being camp in general you're definetely in the wrong place!

Thanks Nicky. I see I wasn't the only one to take exception to There But For The Grace being called camp.
Hey K-Bee, I see where you're coming from. I just reread the original post and now I have a question. Machineboy, as a point of reference can you name me a song that makes you dance like a man? :o

Wasn't the Machine record indirectly about Gay rights (as well as discrimination in general)?
I remember NickNack referring to it in a previous post as a bit of an anthem 'cos of the line "no Blacks, no Jews and no Gays" saying it hit a chord 'cos he scored 2 out of 3. Rightly or wrongly I assumed he meant Gay anthem.

    DISCO

The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.

    hmmmmmm......

okay, I think I'm being taken up the wrong way here,
to me camp isn't really an insult, I'm guessing you guys are in America and maybe over there camp may have a stronger meaning but over here (Ireland to be exact) camp doesn't mean you dress up in your mums dress every weekend, it just implies things that are a bit less serious / more fun

sorry if everyone things I'm saying they're gay for listening to disco, all I wanted was some help finding songs that I could play at a Gay friends party without them thinking I was trying to insult them... I should have said I was looking for some Hi-NRG disco a la Paradise Garage or something but unfortunately I don't really know too much about disco and didn't want to come across as pretending I was "Jonny - I used to hang out in the Loft" and I didn't want to say Gay Anthemns cause I was afraid everyone would think I meant "It's Raining Men" or "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme"

QUINNY was right the reason I called Machine camp is because it's a huge gay anthemn over here because of the lines "Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays"

again sorry for any insult, I'll keep my mouth shut in future
    J

    Jeez, I'm confused. :o :o :o

    First it was "Camp Classics"....

    Then it's NOT "Camp Classics"...

Just music that Gays can dance to....DUH????

How about just playing GOOD MUSIC????

    They can dance to that.

Hey Mixmachine. I don't think we were insulted, just confused as to what you want or meant. By the way feel free to say what you want, at least at me anyways. I'm used to hearing insults
I'm straight and African-American and I and my straight butch buddies never picked up anything particulary gay about Machine's song. It just happened to be a song that appealed to a lot of people here in the states :)

ok, BARBIE GIRL by Aqua. :P :P :P

The Euros lapped this up...or so we're told over here.

I would think Amanda Lear would qualify as Euro camp.

But Jussi K. would be the expert on this. He wrote the book, so to speak. :D

How about the disco version of the Friday the 13th theme sung by Betsy Palmer. Is that CAMP enough?

Machine was about equal rights for all. There's nothing camp about it. BTW: Gay Anthem = Camp Classic? NOT!

Machineboy: If you want to have a good party, play some good music. If you think by playing a bunch of campy tunes for a gay crowd you're going to get over then you are being kind of insulting. I like James Brown. I like Hazel Dean. And I have never set foot on the dancefloor to "Gimme,Gimme, Gimme...". :x

No, but if it did it would probably be scarier than the movie.

Btw, this is slightly off topic but Adrienne King who played the only surviving camper was allegedly stalked in real life by some sicko.

Now back to the topic. How about anything by Sylvester?
or "Remember Me/Ain't No Mountain High Enough" Boystown Gang?

Where Is My Man - Eartha Kitt

    ok, BARBIE GIRL by Aqua.

Oh No Marky ... don't go there. This is the only impact my country ever had on the US charts - unfortunately it had to be about the worst track ever made.

    Machineboy,
after browsing through the thread, it seems to me that what you're actually looking for it a dose of good ole eurodisco. I'll admit euro disco is not my strong side but I can definetely relate to the style being looked upon as "camp" more than the stuff being made in the US. The latter was mor funky alltogether (not a fact - just my humble opinion )

No Paul, Linx were british. Member David Grant later recorded "Mated" with UK singer Jaki Graham which was quite popular across Europe in 1986.

I always found that the 80s was wilder in terms of camping it up. Sure, Sylvester strutting down those flashing stairs was cool, but you can't beat Dead or Alive, Divine, Bronski Beat and dear dear Grace Jones for truly trashy camp. I love Machines song, though the guitars are pretty noisy towards the end. I hate when disco songs have rock type bits in them.
