What is this event? We're kind of sheltered here in the US when it comes to European events.

K-bee, even If I'm born and live in Paris, I'm the biggest fan of Italy, that is in the same group as Denmark

I think France and Italy have the best teams to win it but anything can happen (remember 1992)

Bernie the Euro is a big soccer competition whith the 16 best european squads. At the end, one team is european champion.

It doesn't seem to, but it's a big thing here, everybody's talking about it, it's on the first pages of the newspapers. In paris, a gigantic Tv has been installed in front of the Hotel de Ville in order to enable people that couldn't make the trip to Portugal to watch the games ...

Now I'm still sad because the Monaco was defeated by the Porto in the Champions League several weeks ago :x

Haven't been watching the Euro this time as right now I'm trying to organize the future of my life...

Yeah sorry for forgetting what this thread was acually about Bernie. This championship will probably get no coverage stateside whatsoever  so I should have been giving some more information.

    anyway...
who's gonna win: France or Germany (as always..it's rather boring if u ask me  )

Who's gonna score: Dutch striker Van Nistelroy is gonna score more goals than anyone else (doesn't he always  )

Who's gonna finish last: Denmark obviously  We have no place in a compitition like this!

but of course - this is footie...anything is possible :)

K-Bee I've been impressed by Denmark. They really played a great game. Both teams could have won this one.

I think honestly it was the best game of the Euro so far.

BTW, Sweden kicked Bulgaria's ass, so this group could be tougher than expected ...

I given up on cable some time ago, but now surprise! Our local State channel (air TV) has a TV show dedicated to Eurocopa :o So, last night I ate looking at a 1 hour resumé of Sweden vs. Bulgary (5-0). That Larrsen kicked some ass!
You know, we South Americans tend to play futbol more slowly, with "gambetas" and "paredes" (let's say that Riquelme is our best ambassador in terms of our way of playing), and seeing a guy kicking the ball forward, then running behind it during 80 metros, then trying to make a goal by kicking the ball 30 metros before the net, can be somewhat boring  However, now that our local championship went to cable, I'm thinking into maybe join the Euro... I still don't know which team to scream for.

I do wish soccer/football was more popular here in the US. An exciting game that gets no coverage because we already have our 'football'. Of course, our feet rarely touch the ball but what's in a name?

Indeed they must! However it was a pretty close game but since Beckham apparantly can't handle the pressure of scoring a penalty, it couldn't go any other way.
Congratulations to the hosts for making it to the semi-final! :)

But you wouldn't want all the crap that goes with it.
Football is hyped out of all proportion and footballers are treated as gods. How absurd. The whole circus is an obscene merry-go-round of greed and more greed (just like American Football and Basketball, eh?), machismo beyond belief and little boys acting like little boys pretending to be men.
Give me Rugby or Cricket any day. At least they haven't been completely spoilt by money, yet.

I'm glad England are out of the European Cup. They haven't played one decent game (the midfielders all need shooting) and although robbed of a goal last night, on balance the better team won.

Saw Portugal vs. England last night and certainly it was a great match. Goalkeeper Ricardo went out with all the hurras, catching the ball in the last England penalty and then executing the last one for his team himself! Another Chilavert!
Much as I love England in the art department, I cannot deny I'm glad they bited the dust in football :)
Now I plan to see France Vs. Greece. But Portugal is already my team!

Well yes, we do enjoy this kind of "symbolic" revenge... But also that we feel players like Beckham are a bit overhyped. There's also some kind of glory in the "child beating the father" scenario (remember we learned to play football from the English), like in that 1986 Cup match.

All I can say is, remember the second goal from that match :) About El Gran Diego, right now he's in a Buenos Aires private hospital trying once more to cure his addictions. They say he lost around 10 kilos in the last weeks, but most people treat him like a lost case.

Well, yesterday I wasted two hours of my life watching Holland vs. Sweden (neither of them deserved to go to the next round). So, what do the British think about "La Bruja" Verón? We never forgave him for the last World Cup performance, but some people say he was doing good in Europe.

The only exciting football I've seen is by the Czech Republic. They'd have to be anyone's tip for the Cup. Otherwise I'm with you here Nano. On the whole, it's been the most boring football I've seen in a very long time.
Veron.......haven't seen too much of him as I'm not really a follower of footie.

Nano: We Brits get the impression that everybody's stolen our game from us and show us the way to go. Can't blame you for liking to get one over us.

The Czech Republic must win this Euro. I think Italy was the other team playing well, even if they disappeared quickly (and with 5 points). France and Germany are out, but they played such a poor football that they deserved it.

I think Portugal will lose 2-1 in final against Czech Republic,

yes STUDIO74 not a party it was a riot involving around 1000 people:o though in fairness reading up on that it was 50-50 english/portuguese but they have all been fined around 750 euros so maybee tonight they will all be good boys
it is not really britain i live its a small island nearer to france than england we have a lot of madeirans living there for the last 25 years, thats why that was a big surprise for me as we dont really have any problems living together.
now here in funchal is is all building up i went to the beach today and everyone is in swimwear but wearing those big hats it was quite funny to see :P
i hope they win later it may be good fun i am meeting friends later and they have promised if portugal win later im not going to spend 1 cent tonight..
