A few years ago my local library was having a used book sale and they had some boxes of old records for sale too.

As i was thumbing through the Perry Como and Andy Williams LPs what did I find but the 12" of "Don't Stop The Train" and the 12" of "Jump Shout" by Lisa.

Who could forget this hot song?! Great, driving rhythm, and I love the desperation in the lyrics. Or maybe Phyllis was desperate because she was having a little trouble reaching and holding some of those high notes!

You know that a few years later she also recorded "I Like You," right?

Phyllis had a huge hit in the UK with 'Move Closer', a slushy ballad. She did struggle with those notes on Don't Stop the train didn't she?!

There was some "off" aspect to "Don't Stop..." that I couldn't put my finger on. Since I haven't played this in eons, I pulled out my 12" copy and sure enough, you are right about her struggling to hold notes. Parts are down-right scary.

I have to agree Bernie. I liked the way Phyllis sang on I Like You, and Move Closer, but she really didn't do Don't Stop the Train full justice.

Does anyone know if anyone else recorded this song?

Viola Wills recorded it as well, and I seem to recall some scandal about her having to finish the vocals on Phyllis' version. If you listen to the 12" closely, you can hear the quality of the vocals change considerably.
