    DJ Phil,

So I'm still confused by what distinguishes a song as "Disco" or "Rosco". I mean I vaguely understand, but I thought "What A Fool Believes" was primarily a rock song that got a Disco treatment remix for play in clubs. Does that make it Disco?

Which of those songs listed so far, qualify, as "Rosco"?

Hi Markdefad, I consider that song a 'Disco Song' preformed by a rock group. The 12" remix is different then the lp version (just like Dolly Parton's 'Baby I'm Burning' the LP version is a 'country song-the PINK 12" single is nothing but DISCO!!) but both (LP and Remix versions) are almost identical in sound. Just a shorter version of the remix. Ditto with the Rolling Stone's 'Miss You'(both sounded the same, 12" was longer). Hope this post answers any questions. All the Best, DJ Phil

I remember the following, most of them heavily played, they stick with you 4evva!

Stretch - Why did you do it (was played to death in some areas)
Dom Troiano - We all need love
Tom Robinson Band - Power in the darkness
    Cars - moving in stereo
John Miles - slow down (that´s the one I played to death)
Frampton´s Camel - do you feel... (studio)
Hall & Oates - Who said the world was fair
    Tom Johnston - Savannah nights
    Pat Travers- Is this love

    So many more, gotta rest...

I'm a big fan (in a guilty pleasure sort of way) of Jim Steinman and his over the to, bombastic rock. He's often sorta flirted with dance/disco music, and while nothing in the late 70s heyday (when his only major work was the Bat Out of Hell album) qualifies some of his later stuff does IMHO. Bonnie Tyler's I Need a Hero is the most obvious example but his production fo a dance cover of her Band of Gold would work in a club as does her underated Rebel Without a Clue by him. For the film Streets of Fire he did two over the top songs with studio band Fire Inc (created for the songs) and both have very driving BPMs--Nowhere Fat and the absolutely superb Tonight is What It Means to Be Young. He created a girl group called Pandora's Box in 1989 who flopped but he recycled many fot heir songs later (Celien Dion did their first single All Comign Back to Me) one song that Meat Loaf later covered, but the Pandora's version is much more dancey and is a fave of mine is Good Girls Go to Heaven (but the bad go everywhere).

Boz Scaggs' reggaeish "Love Me Tomorrow" has a wicked disco hi hat, and how about Mi-Sex's "Computer Games"?

I've championed this track before...you gotta listen to it...

"Do You Remember When" by the J.Geils Band...1983 (Freeze-Frame LP)

new wavey vocals with the most glorious, string-laden backing I've ever heard on a "rock" song...(think Ian Dury in a Philly production)...shouldn't work but it does!

Just noticed this post..so of course I have to put my two cents in!

    Shake Down - Bob Seger
    Sussudio - Phil Collins
    Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band
All She Wants to Do is Dance - Don Henley
Didn't Mean to Turn You On - Robert Palmer
Wake Up, Stop Dreaming - Wang Chung
City Of Angels - Wang Chung
Start Me Up - Rolling Stones
    Beautiful Day - U2
    Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
    Emotional Rescue - Rolling Stones
Little Green Bag - George Baker
    Break Down - Boz Scaggs
Some Kind of Wonderful - Grand Funk
Dark Side - Eddie and the Cruisers
Right Place, Wrong Time - Dr. John
Taking Care of Business - BTO
    Free Ride - Edgar Winter
Listen to the Music - Doobie Brothers
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer
Looking for Clues - Robert Palmer
    I Need U Tonight - INXS
    Suicide Blonde - INXS
    Gorgy Porgy - Toto
Owner of a Lonely Heart - Yes
    Stone Cold Sober - Crawler
La Rosa Negra - Gary Hoey
You Got Me Hypnotized - Bob Welch
Close to You - Maxi Priest
We Close Our Eyes - Go West
    Call Me - Go West
Eye to Eye - Go West
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins (considered alternative but what the heck)
    Low Rider - War
    Tobacco Road - War
    City, Country, City - War
    Gypsy Man - War
Me and Baby Brother - War

Now it's true that War filled a lot of clubs back in the day...but most put them under the genre "rock" which is why I included these great tunes.

I realize some of these songs don't fall into the category but I have to say I've used them in mixes to great response. Since not all my friends would lay claim that they loved disco (some men) it's always fun to see them jump up and move when these songs are intertwined!

Although it's probably, already been mentioned (but it's in my head, now & I'm too lazy to backtrack):

    Van Halen "JUMP!"
Hot Tracks did an extended edit of it, but I'd never call it Disco.
Though it was done very well, Steve Algozino didn't tackle the problematic intro. So, you still have to start it cold.
