    Impact of Disco

Hi. I'm doing a paper for my History final on disco and the impact it had on society and how it affected people and our culture. I'm having a little trouble finding this information so if anyone could give me a helping hand it'd be much appreciated! Thanks in advanced.

It was the most open, free spirited time in recent history.
    Certainly during the 20th Century.

No limits, no labels just total freedom to be who and what you wanted.

It has had some lasting impact on youth culture - especially night club culture, dance music and Saturday Night Fever.
Long lasting effects on the U.S. - drug laws and drunk driving laws beyond that...? Those of us who lived through the time will never forget the period. :D

Depends on where you're based and whether or not you're looking at worldwide, just UK, just USA etc.

In the USA the impact was much more tangible than in the UK (certainly pre- Saturday Night Fever). Its one greatest claim to fame must be that it was the daddy of House music. Otherwise, I think that its influence would have to be seen as relatively small and limited in the whole scheme of things. A passsing fad in effect, just like most other genres of music that anyone cares to name.

Read some books on it if you must, or read this site. That would probably give you just as good an insight.

Speaking of "SNF": Just happened to go through some old scrap books my wife and I have and in one she has the ticket stub to "SNF" when we saw it 4/14/78! And it only cost us $2.50 to get in. Remarkable, that movie made $140 million during it's first run at $2.50 a pop!
