I Feel Love Donna Summer.
I was just wondering which disco songs were ahead of their time. Another words which disco song would make it in today's era?
I reckon Change's Angel in my pocket would definitely make it in today's era.
If you know of any write 'em down below
Cheers
I Feel Love Donna Summer.
Giorgio Moroder stuff like From Here To Eternity and I Wanna Rock You.
Earth Wind & Fire´s In The Stone sounds like it was made in the 80´s,but it´s from 1978.
Patrick Cowley´s stuff.
Cerrone´s Supernature and Standing In The Rain
Can´t remember more...
I love Change's 'Angel in my Pocket' but to me it sounds very 1980!
Womb Prayer!
Cat Stevens: Was Dog A Doughnut & Kraftwerk: Trans-Europe Express laid down electronic rules in 1977, while Black Soul: Mangous Ye was already house in 1975. Cellophane's fast Super Queen should be more widely known for it's Midney-style dubby phasings and echo effects. Max Berlins: Elle et Moi was recorded in 1978 yet it's curiously rap/hiphop. Ze label stuff was always very nouvelle vague too.

All the synth tracks are ahead of their time because they still sounds fresh today because people still use that sound.
Most Moroder productions still sounds good.
Patrick Cowley Still sounds good.
Bobby O´s copy of the moroder sound still sounds good.
Feelin' love by Hott City from 1979 - it's the missing link between 70s disco and 90s house tracks!
Now that's a great track that slipped through the cracks.Originally Written by darrens

Certainly in terms of the amount of times they have been sampled by 'modern' dance records, I must name 'Let No Man Put Asunder' by First Choice & 'Lets Start The Dance' by Bohannon as being ahead of their time. (it must be tracks that start with 'Let' that influence people for some reason! :-? )
...ya gotta beat the street......
I've undoubtedly mentioned before that Gene Chandler's 'Get Down' pre-empted the whole Prelude/early '80s 'boogie' sound by some years, with its laid back feel and that synth hook. Gayle Adams' 'Stretch In Out' seems its natural successor, then Evelyn King's 'I'm In Love', directly to D-Train...
Atmosfear's 'Dancing In Outer Space' certainly was (and still is) on a planet of its own.
With you on the Bohannon thing, Steely. 'Let's Start The Dance' may be one of the most overplayed disco classics, but it still tears **** up. Definitely progressive for its time and still a bit of a headf**k on cans. So much going on.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Evelyn King's 'Im In Love' always fascinated me as it was, as u say Forrrce, like 'Get Down', ahead of its time with its sparse 'boogie' sound but at the same time it had such a nagging familiarity about it, but I'm damned if I could ever find what it reminded me of! :-?
...ya gotta beat the street......
'70s jazz with synth effects...
Creepin' ('79) by Le Pamplemousse...
Song For My Father ('80) by Capitain And Tennille...
:)
I always thought Prince's WHEN DOVES CRY was unique because it was the first funk record to hit #1 without a bassline..
"I feel love" Donna Summer
Because, even today's dance music - which is basically disco - still has that four four beat. And it's incredible to think how complex those early synthesizers were to programme and keep in time, as many musicians like Vince Clarke, Kraftwerk, Stevie Wonder, et al, will testify.
How about Chic's 'Good Times'? Its effects reverberated for years afterwards when many bass lines were punctuated in a similar '1-2-3' style.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Kraftwerk's incredible LP COMPUTER WORLD should be considered ahead of it's time... because, nothing sounded like it and or so many FREESTYLE music evolved from it for example:
AFRIKA BAMBATTA's - PLANET ROCK
the utterly amazing Disco Club album by Black Devil - sounds like a psychedelic/psychotic version of Giorgio's From Here to Eternity
I´ve bought that Black Disco Devil record recently, and it sounds tottally contemporary. Some Italo-Disco stuff like Casco´s Cybernetic Lover, Charlie´s Spacer Woman and Alexander Robotnick´s Problémes D´Amour sound tottally comtemporary also...producers like Metro Area,Daniel Wang,Chicken Lips and Bangkok Impact/Putsch 79 are very influenced by stuff like this.
Bohannon - Keep On Dancing - out 4 years before Let's Start The Dance and virtually a carbon copy. Must be even further ahead of its time.
Tell me if i'm wrong but you could still play Tantra's 1980 Hills Of Katmandu on a today's progressive house mix session and it would match perfectly...
When I first heard O Jays' cover of "For the Love of Money" from 1976 by the DISCO DUB BAND, I immediately thought that this track could have easily been recorded in the 90's. Everything is ahead of its time, from the dubby sound to the voice.
Other tracks by years ahead of their time :
A Number of Names - Share Vari
Anne Clarke - Our Darkness (could have been released this year)
ESG - Moody
Visual - The Music got me
Michael Jackson - Thriller
I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )
Well damn...most of everything I was gonna mention was already listed LOL..but anyhow, i'll do a small list of 70s disco ahead of its time reguardless:
Giorgio - From Here To Eternity (Suite)
Black Devil - Disco Club (Full LP)
Hott City - Feelin' Love
Jumbo - Turn On To Love (This one by all means doesnt sound like it was from 1975.. wouldnt hold today..but sounds very 1979/80 with the new wave 80's vocal style and just the way its formated)
Cerrone - Supernature
Space - Save Your Love For Me (1979 Version)
L.E.B. Harmony - Feeling Love (not the same track as Hott City)
Alec R. Costandinos (Sumeria) - Golden Tears
Tantra - Hills Of Katmandu
Patrick Cowley (about every track he ever produced or recorded)
..could go on and on but..thats some..even though most were listed

Hey Guys...I always thought that Polly Brown's "Up In A Puff of Smoke" was a disco song ahead of it's time...NOT!!! Just kidding...Thought you guys may not being paying attention...Seriously though, I remember the song: "Because There Is Music In The Air" by Macho would be a dance song that would survive today's dance clubs...What do you think? I still play it on my turntable at home and dance with the belt on my bathrobe... Take Care, All... 8) Mario
Ahhhh..now theres one I forgot about! See...my brain is gone
