    12" singles from 1975

    i'll start with
    v.montana ohh,l love it(love break)
    DISCO

The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.

Do you not mean 12"s of tracks from 1975? Wasn't 'Love Break' just the retitled, 1983 remix of 1975's 'Chicago Bus Stop (Ooh, I Love It)'?

I can only think of 2 commercial 12s which were (possibly genuine) 1975ers - Natural Order's 'Jealousy' and that green-labelled Leone Thomas 12" (title escapes...), which is reckoned to actually be late jazz vocalist Leon Thomas.

The 1983 re-mix does have the original publishing year (1975) on the label, so maybe that's misled you. Unless, perhaps, your 12" isn't mixed by Shep Pettibone?

I saw another Calhoun 12 recently ('Soul Man') - that's possibly '75 also?

I used to see that Leone Thomas 12" on occasion, but never bought it - I just remember it sounding rather strange.

By the way, Phillip, Salsoul was originally Mericana and on Joe Bataan's suggestion, was renamed Salsoul in '75. The first LP was the Salsoul Orchestra album. Some copies thank 'Joe Bataan for planting the seed' on the sleeve. :D

"Let's Do The Latin Hustle" Eddie &bbs unlimited
on "Friends & Co. 12" single the flip side is AWSOME!
a lovely little french disco tune.

I;d have to say the alot of the "Roulette Disco Singles"
    are from 1975-76
and ill bet some nice rare "Scepter 12" singles were out too.
not realy sure though. since most of there disco versions
    were on "Dual 45's" aka part 1 & 2

Buddah had a 12 single from the trammps called
"Zing Went The String Of My Heart" not sure if it was
1975 or 74. its quite hard to find. wish i had one! :P

There's a UK-only 4-track Trammps 12" on Buddah from the '70s which is a bit of a bargain-bin classic. This may the one that's being referred to. I'm sure it's not from so early on, but later (perhaps '77/'78 ). If that's the one, it's not rare at all on these shores.

I've got several 12 inch singles from 1975.

    Spanish Hustle - Fatback Band
More, More, More - Andrea True Connection
    Breakaway - Ernie Bush
Scepter Test Pressings - ie South Shore Commission/Secrets/Bobby Moore/Bimbo Jet/Banzaii
    Mellow Blow - Barrabas
    Waterbed ? - Herbie Mann
Keep Holding On - Ace Spectrum (great tune!)
That's where the happy people Go - Trammps
We're on the right track? - Blue Magic
    Lady Bump - Penny Mclean
    ? - Trammps
Love or Leave? - Detroit Spinners
    Dance, Dance, Dance - Calhoun
    ? - Philly Devotions

There's many more that were realeased that year ie Frankie Valli - Swearin to God ,Leone Thomas etc. In all there must have been at least 50 before the "official" first 12 inch ie the first Joe Public could buy, was released.

Although Eddie Drennon has 1975 on the label I read somewhere it was actually pressed in 1976 so I didn't include that!

Mmm - I have some of those - Philly Devotions, Blue Magic, Ace Spectrum...maybe I also have some others. I usually assume these records came out on 12" a year or two after initial 7" or LP release.

Karlos, I'm very interested to know if this 12" was possibly the LP version or Single Edit? or do both of them appear on this 12. :)

    Karlos,

I'm not sure if you've heard to Single Edit... what the label did was remix it so that it sounded more like their other hits... They did an awesome job on it.

The LP version from PICK OF THE LITTER was not as bouncy and danceable unfortunately... however, this would be a great collectors item. 8)

Hey Kevin. Great job posting that list. I noticed however that you have "US Columbia AS 276 Kokomo- Use Your Imagination 4:06 / mono 4:06 12” " as a mono track. Interesting. I have the 45 at home and I'll have to compare it to what you have here.

Actually only one side of that 12" is mono, the other is stereo. Some of these early Columbia 12"ers were used to support both disco DJ's as well as radio stations that may need a mono version for broadcast.

So "Soul train '75" was a legit release, I wasn't sure.

That is a very nice collection in the grove , you could probably buy a house if you ever list them on Ebay

This were all very hard to get (some don't ring a bell), only well connected working Dj's were able to get many of this at the time( at least in my area)
I just remember hunting down many in your list without luck , I would have to check, but it appaers that the 7''/LP version of a few of this are the same length, but of course this are trully collectors items on 12".

I WISH I had all of these in my collection... Still hunting for some of these after many years of collecting!

The label on the Soul Train Gang 12" did not specify that it was an RCA pressing, but the 'DJL1' numbering gives it away. It is a plain orange label and I think RCA used it because they had not yet finalized the label artwork for the Soul Train label.

It is pretty interesting that RCA and the subsidiary labels it distributed has the most pressings from 1975 (16 according to this list, followed by Atlantic at a measly 9 and Scepter at 5). RCA never seems to get much credit for their role in pioneering the 12", but the numbers don't lie!

I don't think it's any coincidence that RCA put out so many, since David Todd was working for them at that time.

    Miles,

Sadly my test press is "Train called Freedom" although this is probably still quite rare in it's own right. "Free Man" I believe is ultra rare and was only ever issued as an acetate (beware of the bootlegs!). I know of only 2 people who have "Free Man" on 12 inch, I would not dare to guess how much a copy of "Free Man" could command if it ever came up for sale.

"Gangster Love" by the Chicago Gangsters

A great 1975 12"single that is not very popular for some reason.

Obviously hasn't been listed on eBay yet with the word 'rare' repeated 20 times in its 30 word write-up. Give it time.

Oh yea I love how on ebay people list common stuff as "RARE"..what really made me laugh was seeing someone post a normal copy of the Sat. Night Fever soundtrack and say "ultra rare disco LP" and start the bid at 20 bucks LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

2 1975 12''rs that no one mentioned (at least I didnt see them mentioned) was the French 12'' of Cerrone "Love In C Minor" and the 12'' of Donna Summer "Love To Love You Baby".
