    CD RW Question

How many times can one actually record + erase + record + erase .....a CD RW? Also I would like to know if the action of erasing and recording can be somehow harmful for new files u burn on the CD afterwards, like altering the sound quality etc etc.

    Thanks in advance.

In theory, their read/write/erase capacity is unlimited. Even if you really could re-use CD-RWs a million times over, who's going to get anywhere near?

I used to use them for backing up my machine when I re-installed the OS - but only for data, not music. Perhaps unfairly, I've always assumed they wouldn't maintain audio integrity.

Oh thanks Forrrce! :) Yeah I think it's unlimited, I'm using it for data files too, mainly transferring music I'm restoring from my laptop to another PC.

I have to say I've got one of these Philips CD-R, CD-RW machines and I remember reading some "very small character" directions where they say those digital audio discs are recommended to be erased and re recorded for no more than a hundred times. I'm sorry this is only something I remember vaguely. Anyway, who could re-record not even half that much...?

With CD-Rs so cheap, one wonders why anyone would want to use CD-R RW. CD-R RW was introduced at a time when CD-R was very expensive and the largest hard drive capacity was low in comparison to today's machines. It looked like an attractive option, except most CD-R RWs had huge compatibility problems.

I still wouldn't trust them wholeheartedly. They'll last as long as you treat them with kid gloves and slavishly look after them. Otherwise........forget 'em. They don't fulfill any one function well enough.
