OK B2D,

some of the greatest basslines ever I believe are:
ARETHA FRANKLIN - ROCK STEADY
SLY & THE FAMILY STONE - THANK YOU
PEOPLES CHOICE - DO IT ANYWAY YOU WANNA
JAMES BROWN - SEX MACHINE
FRED WESLEY & THE JB'S - DOIN' IT TO DEATH
just for starters... :D

Aretha Franklin - Get it Right
Marcus Miller - Lovin' You

Taana Gardner - Work That Body & When You Touch Me
Ramona Brooks - I Don't Want You Back
Womb Prayer!
There are so many good ones out there but my favorites right now are :
We Got Our Own Thing - C.J & Co.
Can't Live Without Your Love - Tamika Jones
Is It In - Jimmy Bo Horne
This topic has been discussed before.......probably just before your time.
I've still got to go with
Rhythm Makers - Zone as one of the all-time killers
George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair (how many records have a proper bass solo?)
War - Galaxy (another old chestnut of mine)
Unique - What I Got Is What You Need (synth bass that was brilliant IMO)
There must be a load more that I just can't think about.
Otherwise, I always liked the really loose, fluid bass lines that just seem to roll on and on.
M.F.S.B. 'Love Is The Message'
Chic 'Good Times'
B.T. Express 'Do You Like It'
...just 3 of the best.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?

MFSB "Mysteries of the world"
AZIMUTH "Partido Alto"
CHANGE "The Glow of Love"
LEVEL 42 "43" or "Love Meeting Love"
James Brown's 'Soul Power' is another particular favourite.

Good choice. It makes the Sunshine band re-hash sound just that.
Al Hudson & The Partners "How Do You Do"
Bell & James "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)"
Gary's Gang "Showtime"
(Jazz)Chuck Mangione "Fun & Games"
Even though this is an 80s track, the immortal bassline of Dennis Edwards' - Don't Look Any Further - deserves a mention here
Along with Kenny Burke's - Rising to the Top (another great one) this must surely be one of the most sampled bass lines ever!
Can anyone explain why it has the same melody as Slave's "Watching You"? I've been wondering for years.Originally Written by efunk_adelic
The bass-line is replayed on the Odyssey track, but the backing is 'Watching You', with overdubs. I don't know why Slave members aren't credited, even though Jimmy Douglass (Slave's producer) also produced 'Inside Out' - surely he'd heard that backing somewhere before!Originally Written by buckaroo
'Watching You' is up there with the greats, though, as is 'Slide' (good call, Paul).

A number of tracks from Miss Ross' Diana (1980), especially "Have Fun (Again)", "My Old Piano" and "Tenderness".
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards
Of course "good Times" or any bassline produced by Bernard edwards and Nile Rodgers
Vaughan Mason & crew - Rock bounce Roll Skate
Nancy Martin - Can't believe
Plunky & the Oneness of Juju - Every way but loose (Larry Levan remix)
ingram - Mi Sabrina Tequana
Banbarra - Shack up
Harry Thumann - Underwater
Fantasy - hey who's gotta funky song
I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )
ComKing: I'm glad you mentioned Banbarra. I was listening to that last night and thought to myself that I should have put it down. But like i said, there's soooo many.
Oneness Of Ju Ju stole its bassline from another track, which I can't remember at this minute. Anyone with a better memory help me out?
I ignored the bassline of "every Way but loose" was taken from an another track.
Quinny Banbarra is the ultimate Funk track for me, I've listened to it the whole week .
I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )
I can't think of anything Oneness Of Juju could have lifted the bass line from, though it isn't too dissimilar to Brick's 'Dazz' in a certain manner.
Two tracks - 'Can't Believe' and 'Is It All Over My Face' - always strike me as being built around 'Love Is The Message', in a between-the-lines way.
