About GRACE JONES...she did an act in Vienna
in the Discotheque VOLKSGARTEN=PEOPLE´S
GARDEN and was O.K.
But she´s a real crazy Diva and still very
eccentric...
Cosmic Love & Kisses From SIRIUS & DARKTUNES
I would like to know what happened to artists like: France Joli, Poussez, Miquel Brown, Voyage, Patrick Hernandez, Grace Jones, Ryan Paris etc. If you know of other Disco artists that kind of "dissappeared" it would be cool if you posted some info in this topic.

Grace Jones made a tour in Italy some months ago and who saw her said that she's in a perfect shape! On 2002-05-11 20:47, Voyage wrote:

Voyage
Grace Jones was on TV here in the UK on Friday night & she hasn't changed a bit to look at but seems alot happier these days. (must be all the years of cocaine)

UNKNOWN as to where they all are now. In the 80's Voyage and many others tried to change with the times and didnt make it(anyone remember Chic's 1992 album...LOL....i think one of the worst comeback attempts ever, included even a Rap song...jeeesss)

Hey DJ Jimmy M, I own "Chic-ism" on CD and I think it's a fairly good record, specially for a comeback. Of course I play it one time for every ten times of early hits like "My forbidden lover", but for me it's OK.
In 1992, Chic Mystique - Chic did very well as a single on Warner Bros. Mixed by M.A.W.
Voyage's third album was an attempt for the present sound at that time.
Unfortunately, I Love You Dancer - Voyage was their last hit to which I truly enjoyed.
Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!
I also liked that "Chic Mystique" and the song it mixes into "Your Love" (NOT the screeching LePage's tune). I thought this was on a par with their best stuff. (OK, start throwing poison darts at me). The rest of the CD wasn't at that level, but I remember telling Keefe via phone to listen to it cause my feet were dancin'. As usual, he'd purchased and never played.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
I won't throw poison darts at you Markydefad. I'll give you bonus points for agreeance to Chic Mystique - Chic being a nice, dance hit. Unfortunately, the rest of that album wasn't up to par in 1992 for Chic.On 2002-05-12 16:27, markydefad wrote:

I've always wondered whatever happened to
The Sylvers, Switch, The Ritchie Family, Howard Hewett and the other Shalimar guy, First Choice, Disco Tex, Tavares, Kraftwerk, Salsoul Orchestra, Gino Soccio, Gary's Gang????????????

Are still around, but have basically become victims of their own philosophy: they are obsolete. In the 1970s, you could only produce that kind of music with unique custom-built equipment... today you could do it on your home computer. They've been holed up in their studio ever since. Karl Bartos left several years ago, and has released a couple of solo LPs.Kraftwerk
They did a new single a couple of years ago (first new material in 15 years!), and also played Glastonbury (a massive UK music festival).
Howard Hewitt is still making records. He even had a brief reunion with his fellow Shalamar partners Jody Watley and what's-the-other-guy's-name on the Babyface track "For the lover in me" (1996). I think he is doing session work as well as gospel.

Gotta agree with both of you. I liked the album, and liked the MAW 12" remixes. There also was a 12" of "Your love" in 1992, remixed by Frankie Knuckles. On 2002-05-12 16:33, The Lord of Flatbush wrote:

Voyage, I know that Miquel (sp) Brown was in a very serious car accident in 1985 (or so). After that, I don't know what happened to her.
Hustle, if you mean Jermaine Stewart (the other Shalimar guy), then I believe he passed away last year.

Hi Boodika, if I'm not wrong Jermaine Stewart just did backing vocals for Shalamar. The "other" Shalamar guy is Jefrey Daniels. He's alive but is out of busyness, he recorded one album in the early 80's, but flopped. On 2002-05-14 09:16, Boodikka wrote:

SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL
Jermaine Stewart passed away in 1997 of AIDS related cause. He did backgroud vocals in Culture Club's "Colour by Numbers".
Have a Disco Life.
I hope nothing bad happened to Miquel.
Hustlebaby:
Howard Hewett continues to record. His 1994 effort 'It's time' is one of my favorite R&B CD's for love ballads. From top to bottom it is incredible and underrated. The other guy from Shalamar was Jeffrey Daniels. I don't know if he did anything after Shalamar since he was just a street dancer before that. I believe the two Debarge brothers from Switch continue to produce music. I think the same goes for Gary Turnier of Gary's Gang. Can't name any sepcific projects though since I am at work and my music is at home.
Easy,
Sam "ALL JAM"
I saw Howard Hewitt and Jeffrey Daniels performing together as "Shalamar" at the Best Disco In Town concert in the UK in May 2000. Howard said during the concert that they had asked Jody if she wanted to get together again, but she had too many projects on so she declined, though they were still all great friends. Great concert it was too. The Tavares also performed, as did Alexander O'Neal, The Real Thing, Odyssey, Rose Royce and Candi Staton. Superb.
I read an interview in 1983 with Howard Hewitt where he proclaimed 'disco is dead'. Thought u may be interested in that. I've never touched a record of his ever since.
