Just heard on this morning's news that Philadelphia's legendary writer and producer John Whitehead of "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" fame was shot dead yesterday as he worked on a car on the streets of Philly. He was 55 years of age and no reason for the apparent shooting is known at this time. If anyone hears further details please post here.
Whitehead wrote many classic songs such as the O'Jays "Backstabbers", Harold Melvin's "Bad Luck" and many others along with producing for the likes of Gloria Gaynor... A true loss to the music world.

Thanks for that link. I had only heard about it a few minutes before posting earlier. What a senseless crime.

What a tragic, senseless death.. :(
Someone posted about a local news report (i wish i had a direct source) on another forum which said it may have had something to do with an earlier altercation at an auto repair shop where John was also getting his car fixed.. Hopefully more details will be clarified soon..
Barry Scott conducted an interview with John Whitehead recently, and it'll air on "The Lost 45s with Barry Scott" Sunday May 16th from 7pm to 11pm on Oldies 103.3 WODS-FM in Boston. So you guys in Boston, take a listen to that and let us know how it is.
Barry says: "Hear the stories behind the hits as a tribute to John and his songwriting talents."
I always liked the Melba Moore track 'Lets Get Back To Lovin' that McFadden & Whitehead wrote. If there is a heaven or hell, it sure is full of talented disco people.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I can partly understand why rappers like tupac and Notorious BIG were constantly threatned by madmen, but to realize than John Whitehead was gunned down like that is a real shock.
This is so sad. He will be sorely missed by an entire world's disco fans I'm sure.
R.I.P.
