    Bacarra-Yes sir I can boogie 1978?

I just read somewhere that Sophie Ellis Bextor's
hit "murder on the dancefloor" uses parts of Bacarra -Yes sir I can boogie? Anybody have any info on this band?
label etc?? I've never even heard of them??
    thanks

Oh my God :o that is the worst disco I've ever heard
in my life, I could barely force myself to listen to the
2 minute clip to hear the sample which I still don't hear?
    thanks for the info though

No, "Murder on the Dancefloor" has nothing sampled, unlike "Groovejet". Even the violins were specially recorded live in studio just for the song by the British quartet "The Wired Strings".

"Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" really does get tiring after a short while. Baccara's own "Koochie-Koo" basically samples the strings from "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie".

Thank you for posting your message! I didn't realize Sophie had released her own rendition of "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" on CD till I researched that just now. I had only known she was performing it in concerts.

I quite like the Baccara track.... Its a classic cheesy track that i even got on US 12" However i would agree that i it probably wont find its way to either a Dave Lee or a Dmiritry compilation -
Check out their version of Light My Fire its very long but atleast a few minutes of it is increddible =)

Nice to see you back ;-)

D'ya have any knowledge if it was re-recordes and released several times? I have to versions: The one to be found on the album (which I can't remember the name of at the moment) and numerious compilations, and one on mp3 that sounds like an earlier recording. It's much more 'unpolished' in it's sound - allmost demo-like.

Buckaroo: How can you write that Bacarra is no less cheesey than Andrea True?
Even my wife, who admits she has no real musical taste whatsoever, feigns wretching if she ever hears Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, whereas she gently wiggles her hips and sings along to Andrea True. Even she can smell a rat!

    Ah Q,

I'm having a real "kum-bay-ah" moment. "Hands across the water, hands across the sky"!!! We agree!!! Who knew???!!!

On a Scale O' Cheese....let me put it this way.....

"More, More, More" is a fine Brie.... you're throwing a party, you wanna impress your guests with your fine taste....

"Superman" is a Kraft individually wrapped single...edible but very ordinary on your bagged lunch sandwich...

"Yes Sir! I Can Boogie" is a 10 year old container of processed cheese you find in the back of your refrigerator on the day you're moving to a new apartment...and wonder "what was I thinking??!!!" and promptly toss in the TRASH!!!! :P :P :P

she recorded "Yes sir" as a b-side on her last sin

Her lastest single (I won't change you) was out earlier thi year and it includes her version of the song. I recommend it. It's great.

    Yes Sir I Can Boogie

Actually the girls are from Germany.

They did a very bad version of the Bette Midler classic that came out as "Vind Beneath My Vings".

And yes, after all this time, it's still awful.

In defense of Celi Bee, I kinda like "Superman".

There are worse records out there, and I have a feeling we're going to hear about some of them sooner rather than later

    Dear Friends!
First make a difference between cheesy and sleazy Disco...
Baccara is the first one...but still loveable, ´cause of
the trash-factor and everyone can dance to it...
Did You ever see Gays boogie on the dancefloor to this
track...wonderful. Seems that they are the housewifes
    of the future!!!
Baccara are from Spain but had been produced in Germany.
Listen to the tracks like "Darling" or "Gimme Some" or
even "Granada" and maybe You can find also Drama or
    Sleaze.
They are not that bad like BEE GEES!!!!!

Or... what about 'Howzat' by Sherbet? I've recently read about its supposed dancefloor potential. I like 'Yes, Sir, I Can Boogie' and don't care who doesn't, but this is where I truly despair!

i'd never heard of them before these posts, but i just learned that Sherbet were australian. they flopped in america (and were even forced by their american record company to change their name to Highway), but "howzat" sure sounds like something that would've crossed the rock/disco divide back when i was in high school, like player's "baby come back."

Regarding Baccara I'm going to have to brag a bit - I sat down with Mayte Mateos the original lead singer ( Maria used to just do a couple of sighs on the records, both voices were actually sung by Mayte) and Cristina the new recruit and cocktailed the early evening away with them prior to a concert a few years ago here in Finland. There I was with Baccara, sipping drinks and exchanging pleasantries and mirrorball memories! The duo sang to an amazing 4000 people - fans young and old boogied and screamed and waved signature red roses as "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" whipped everyone into Flamenco frenzy. Soul music, no way, but classic pop and eurodisco fluff at it's best. And Mayte still looked gorgeous!

Sirius, I loved your comment about gays being the new house-wives but isn't it the other way around? Women these days live their lives just like gay men- dancing to 'Its Raining Men', watching male strippers & dressing in outrageous revealing clothes.

Getting back to Baccara I saw them perform at a gay club in 1989 & their hi-energy material of that time was much better than their 70s stuff IMO. A track they had out called 'Fantasy Boy' was rather good & not as tacky as you might expect. (I think it was produced by the same team behind other Germany-based acts like CC Catch & Modern Talking).
    ...ya gotta beat the street......
