excellent thread, k-bee, but for me, brass construction are perfect example of a group that started with a fantastic debut, and then ever so slowly and gradually lost it. i will agree with you that their final album was a stinker, but it wasn't that much worse than the one before it, and it did at least have "give and take," which i think still holds up as a great piece of soulful morning music.

i'm more fascinated by artists who created a strong body of work and then abruptly plummeted to unfathomable depths brought on by drugs, over-confidence, too much work, too much money, ego, etc.

one example of the top of my head would be gregg diamond, who produced the andrea true hits, created two absolutely classic bionic boogie albums, and recorded the fine *starcruiser* lp for t.k.

but in 1979, he let loose that truly disappointing third bionic boogie album, and the utterly ghastly *hardware* lp.

he wasn't the only one to put out the disco doo-doo in 1979.

    any other examples?

It was always a sad sight to see artists such as Cerrone, Dan Hartman, Village People, Chic & Macho making 'rock' records when they considered disco 'dead', although it must be noted that most of them went back to making 'dance' music as the 80s progressed & the dust settled!

    Don't forget Gino Soccio's "S-Beat"-- surely, the "S" stands for ****. :P :P :P :P :P

Mr. S was trying to jump on that new wave rock bandwagon I think he learned his lesson. He turned to the funk next time.

The only cut I ever wanted to hear again was the druggy "Rhythm Of The World".
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

    Macho: Macho II
    Ultimate: Ultimate 2
Village People: Sleazy, and everything that followed
    Poussez: Leave That Boy Alone!
and just about anything done by a 70s disco artist in 1980.

Pretty much agree with those Graham but I have to confess a liking for Village People's 'New York City' from '84.

S Beat was a fairly decent LP..yes you had your rock stuff (but I happen to like real new wave rock lol), but for disco other than "Rhythm Of The World", how bout the last 2 tracks on the LP? "Love Is" and the other (cant remember the name offhand..my brain is fried but I used to play it LOL)

A few more I forgot to mention first time around...

Patrick Juvet - Still Alive (1980)
    - After listening to "Lady Night" i went out and bought this one too. needless to say I shouldn't have - i had no idea he was primarily a rock/pop singer :x

    Pointer Sisters - Priority (1979)
    - more middle of the road crappy music from a trio that defenetely knew so much better than this.

Millie Jackson - Rock 'N Soul
The title says it all really. If Mille was trying to revitalize her career, this was definetely NOT the way to do it.

marcio - teri desario is a funny and aptly self-descriptive example!

graham - i remember buying that second poussez album because i do like the title track, but the rest of the album was horrifying. i hated it so much that i immediately had to banish it from my collection. i of course had to wait a year or two until the promo 12" showed up, but it was worth it not to have that crap in my house! macho 2 made the cut simply because of the cover (and i will defend "roll," which was a big cut in nyc and the b-side of a 12".)

marky - at least s-beat had TWO great songs - rhythm of the world and i wanna take you there (now) - that lp went flying out of my collection once i got both of those 12"s (and i must say i REALLY love the disconet version of rhythm of the world.)

i wish i could remember more of those otherwise awful albums that i gladly replaced with 12"s, but maybe i'd rather be in denial as to ever having spent money on them!
