    Your Last Disco Set

Just played at a function and it went down pretty well. I haven't enjoyed playing for quite a while, but nights like this one are the ones I'm always chasing. If anyone else has played a disco-centred set of late, share your playlist. Here's some of mine - nothing obscure, mainly crowd-pleasers, but they worked.

We Three 'Get On Board' (7")
    Asphalt Jungle 'Freakin' Time' (12")
Loose Change 'Straight From The Heart' (12")
    Brass Construction 'Happy People' (LP)
Charles Earland 'Coming To You Live' (12")
Soft Touch 'Be My Fortune Teller' (12")
    Touch 'Energizer' (12")
    Gayle Adams 'Stretch In'Out' (12")
Isley Brothers 'Fight The Power' (7")
Mass Production 'Welcome To Our World (Of Merry Music)' (12")
Thelma Houston 'I'm Here Again' (12")
Hi Gloss 'It's Up To You' (LP)
    Inner Life 'Your Love' (12")
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?

WOW! Question...are you a Bowie fan? Cause only Bowie fans would even know that one I would think..very short little ditty in the begining of the "Low" LP. I thought it always had a small bit of disco back drop to it but never would dare play that one cause it has too much of the rock edge..but its a great song! Off "Low" though I have a few times played "A New Carrer In A New Town" slowed down when I worked at Boom.

Bowie is one of those acts I think many djs have kept paying attention to because of his image - borderline dance/rock/fashion and still sort of trendy after all these decades. "Breaking Glass" sounds timeless and quite good when subwoofered a lot, give it a lot of bass and you don't really feel the rock edge at all and yes, it's such a catchy number. I've also spinned "Golden Years" plus "Fame" on occasion, always to a good reaction.

I'll actualy try that and mix around with "Breaking Glass" like you said..I no longer spin but I may be able to make a good disco mix :D The one Bowie track I would always play usualy following Jumbo's "Turn on To Love" was "Stay"...great disco track and very simmaler to the Jumbo track in vocal feel and key.

Forrrce: Where are some good places in central London that would play decent disco sets like this? I'm over there "supporting" a couple of girls doing the Moonwalk in 11 days' time (fifteen thousand women wearing strange and colourful bras walking a marathon through central London all night in aid of breast cancer) and I might take some time out during the night to visit somewhere decent. They won't miss me.

That's a tricky one, Billy, as you'll bump into disco almost anywhere now. Unless it's a specific night, i.e. techno, d&b or whatever, you're bound to hear some token '70s at the very least. I don't personally know of any dedicated disco nights that aren't cheese-fests, like Starsky & Hutch, School Dinners, etc.

I saw Daniel Wang play on Thursday gone at Plastic People and I really enjoyed it. He played a lot of interesting records I didn't know and it was 100% disco - a few new tunes and lots of obscure (to me) oldies. I'll definitely check him next time. Even 'Cruising The Streets' rocked the spot!
Pity you won't be around in a month's time, because I'm playing in trendy Hoxton. Good luck with your gig, anyway.

I was actually in your neck of the woods on Friday - went to Motel Funk, at The Apartment in the town centre. Your Swindon women very friendly, yah!

    Cheers Forrrce, it's 100% disco I'm after - I'll give the cheese-fests a miss!

Though I haven't been there since just before Christmas, I agree the attractions of The Apartment are appealing, not just for the music...

Some well-known tunes maybe but seem to work again - the younger crowd maybe don't know them and are getting into it and the older like to hear something familiar for a change! I've recently played these
The Intruders-"I'll always love my mama"
Main Ingredient- "Happiness is just around the bend"
Teddy Pendergrass-"The more I get the more I want"
    Bobby Lyle-"Magic Ride"
Zulema-"Giving Up" (Francois K's edit putting the 2 halves on the album together.. great)
Patti Labelle -"The spirits in it"
Melody Stewart -"Get down, get down"
Stephanie Mills- "Put your body in it"
    TJM -"Small circle of freinds"
    The Trammps-"Can we come together"
I play one nighters and parties in Barcelona Spain
