Rufus comes to mind.
How many mixed-race funk bands do you know? I can only think of Sly & The Family Stone and Hot Chocolate but I am not a funk guru. I'm interested what other ones are/were out there.
Rufus comes to mind.
Actually here are some more popular names:
Wild Cherry - Basically had 1 hit... however, they tried 2 more times with no success...
Average White Band - From Scotland, had a black member from England... lol some of their songs had some James Brown/Maceo & The Macks/Fred Wesley & The JB's, etc. etc. influence in the songs.

How 'bout adding these to the pot?
Olympic Runners
L.A. Boppers
Roy Ayers' Ubiquity
MFSB
Sea Level
The Time
Many funk and soul acts had one white member - The Pockets, Sun, Pleasure etc.
The one with the most literal name must be the Italian act
Black and White & Co
Leather is the way forward!
War?
Cameo latterly employed a white English pianist - I used to live next door to his mother! Whenever he came to visit I'd sit in my downstairs loo (toilet) and listen to him practice on her piano that backed on to our party wall. He was/is very good!!
Heatwave!
UK bands:
FREEEZ
INCOGNITO
SECOND IMAGE
SHAKATAK
MOLOKO
UK PLAYERS
JAMIROQUAI
FUNKAPOLITAN
BRAND NEW HEAVIES
US bands:
HERBIE HANCOCK'S HEADHUNTERS
BOOKER T & THE MGs
What about the group that produced what was probably Britain's finest funk LP ever - FBI with FBI in 1976? Stuff like the title track, FBI, and, of course, Talking About Love. They had a couple of white members
:)
Out of all these groups, These were not mentioned:
Lafayette Afro Rock Band

**Funk Is It's Own Reward**
Bad Bascomb (asian drummer)
KC & The Sunshine Band (they did some funky tracks, like Let It Go)
James Brown & The Dapps
...drawing a blank right now...
Disco Funk
there are 2 I love that I'll bet you've never heard of. One is called DAG. You should be able to find their recordings in most bargain bins (they don't call me ol'skinflint for nothing). They do a song called "Our Love Would Be Much Better (if I gave a damn about you)" that's so funky you need to wash your ears afterwards, their singer sounds a lot like the guy from Jamiroquai (sorry, I don't know how to spell that). There's also a group called the Dan Reed Network that mixes funk and rock (imagine Bon Jovi with Prince as the lead singer). Their song (and album) called "Slam" are great. There's also a British band called A Certain Ratio that has done some great funk. Graham Central Station was also a mixed race funk band. War and Bootsy's Rubber Band have been interracial at times. That's all I can think of.
How bout' 'PRINCE' and his band member,
Dr. Fink (the 'white guy' that dressed-up like a doctor and played keyboards)
Wow! remember the Dirty Mind album!!!! Classic:lol:
super d(motordetroit)
How about Brass Construction and the early recordings of Fat Larry's Band?
Hey wasn't that the same dude that wound up with Morris Day & The Time (Monte Moir or Jellybean)? I think that was his name. I wish I could find my Time album.Originally Written by Super D
**Funk Is It's Own Reward**
gotta throw in some doobies. here is something funny-a question was asked to a contestant on a gameshow.
which one of these groups did not comprise of brothers
the doobie brothes, the isley brothers, the allman brothers, and the everly brothers.
well she didn't know, so she called a friend. he didn't know either. she looked old enough to know, though. well she was well on her way with money but after that question she went back down to 1000.
b lovin her some basslines
I'd add HEATWAVE with Rod Temperton and the drummer (can't remember his name right now) being white, while the rest were black guys
