Best From Artist 86 - Chaka Khan

One of my all-time favorite artist. I love her range dynamically and tonally. Just wished I caught her live when she wasn't too high
    These are my favorite 3:

I'm Every Woman - I remember this song had the crowd movin' at the discos.
Papillon - My favorite version of this song. I have never stopped singing it to myself after hearing her do it.
What Cha' Gonna Do For Me - Post classic disco hit that reminded me just how good Chaka is.
    Find them and destroy them!

Chaka and Rufus - Once You Get Started (from '74) - nice driving funky rythms with Chaka's voice floating over the top. Brilliant.

Chaka and Rufus - Do You Love What You Feel (1979) - love the picture of Ms Khan on the 12" record sleeve!!

Chaka (solo) - I'm Every Woman (1978) - still can't get enough of this one! :)

I loves me some Chaka. I once found myself in an elevator with her & her manager or something to our parking garage.. I didn't know what to say.

YOU GOT THE LOVE- such a sleaze delight--the way she bends those notes and makes them nasty.

ONCE YOU GET STARTED - this was always the song they used to play on SF radio right after the news breaks at the half-hour. It renergized the party.

CLOUDS - I heard Larry Levan used to play this twica an hour at Paradise Garage.

I FEEL FOR YOU - one of the best post-disco dance records, IMHO.

    sooooo many others...

    AIN'T NOBODY
DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU FEEL,
    GET READY, GET SET
WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO FOR ME
    I'M EVERY WOMAN
    ANY OLD SUNDAY

    and the ballads...

SWEET THING (oops, I guess I was channeling the Commodores ("Sweet Love") there for a bit)
    MAGIC IN YOUR EYES
    EVERLASTING LOVE
    GOT TO BE THERE

    and most recently...

the whole "COME 2 MY HOUSE" cd produced by Prince. Terrific CD.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

All the above stuff plus I love the '79 'Masterjam' LP she did with Rufus/Quincy Jones & 'Night Moods' & 'Night in Tunisia' from the brilliant 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me ' LP. Oh, I also love 'End Of a Love Affair' from the '86 LP 'CK'. Not disco but totally brilliant!

"NIGHT MOODS"!!!! Yes!!! S.D. (can I call you Sandra Dee???)

"I love your night moods".....sooooooooooooooo sexy.

And "A Night In Tunisia" should have won Miss Chaka a Grammy for jazz vocal.

You certainly can call me Sandra Dee Marky (many people who know me would say it's very appropriate!! :o ) as long as I can call u Blanche! (my butch image is soooo tenuous at times).

    Dear Miss Sandy Dee,

I once wrote to sfbeary that I subscribed to the Blanche DuBois school of music collecting--relying on the "kindness of strangers"......so I guess Blanche would apply.

Also, the Bette Davis line from "Baby Jane"...

"But 'cha are in the wheelchair Blanche,

    BUT CHA ARE!!!!:

is one of my faves...when people can't see the apparent truths about themselves.

It's the Baby Jane one I meant Marky as I always see you as telling it like it is & pricking pretensions ( :o ), naming no names! (but if that's the case u should be Jane - I'm getting confused now!! :-? )

Don't forget Blanche Deveraux from Golden Girls- another favourite character of mine!

Sorry guyz, I digress, back to Chaka..............

    We've got each other

I recently bought Chaka's album "Whacha gonna do for me" album on CD and discovered an old Chaka classic that I really love: "We got each other". It's sooooo funky and cool. Great work by Chaka and Arif Mardin.

OMG it's impossible to choose. I'd say everything she ever did up untill "I Feel For You" - including the "Echoes Of An Era" straight jazz album with Chick Corea and others.

After "I Feel For You" thing went seriously wrong for her though. Her "Destiny" set really surprised me in a very bad way :x. I do like the 1989 remix compilation too though.
    There was life after disco!!

I´ve an 12" with 4 tracks on it, and I think it´s from CHAKA.
    1)I Know You I Live You(Re-Edit)
    2)I Know You I Live You(Reprise)
    3)Clouds
    4)You Got The Love
This is one of these strange maxis where no artist is
mentioned. Is Track 1 also from Chaka Khan???

'I Know You I Live You' is from the 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me' LP. Her best solo LP IMO.

Chaka's my girl :) I recently got the Japanese CD reissue of Rufus and Chaka's "Camouflage" album (in a nifty mini record sleeve).. which has grown on me a lot.. I thought it might be a complete stinker, since it was one of those albums done purely on a contractual obligation, Chaka had had it by then, I think she said she wasn't even in the studio with them when recording it.... "Better Together", "Music Man (The DJ Song)", "Losers In Love" and "Quandary" are all little known Chaka Khan gems IMO.. I think a couple of them charted on the lower end of the dance charts..
