It could very well be that 12D-2012 is a Walter Gibbons remix as opposed to the standard Tom Moulton mix???
Hello!
:-?
could anyone out there provide details about the two different releases of 'My Love Is Free' by Double Exposure? 12D-2012 is slightly longer than 12D-2016(which also has the Salsoul track b/w), 12 seconds, 12D-2012 is impossible to find, I heard that some people doubt it was ever released, 12D-2016 is still quite easy to find.....
Thanks
Johnny

did Walter made a longer remix of it? his remix on the album is only 7:00 minutes plus....I hardly think 12D-2012 was commercially released, maybe a test pressing or something, no one knows about it, but it's on the label lists...thanks for your response
Johnny
No, I don't know if that release is a Wlater Gibbons remix. It was just an educated guess on my part

Hey is this the Johnny from Sweeden I think it is?????? If so how the hell are ya! If not, then you have the same taste the one I know does in disco :D Anyway, id have to check my 12'' to see which stock number I have, its burried away in the crates somewhere with all my other vinyl. I do know mine is the Tom Moulton mix though.

Hey Jimmy!
how's it hanging nowadays? yeah! for sure this is a mysterious matter, hehe, making something out of nothing, well, I'm curious though I see it in all Salsoul label listing, but no details so far...I have the 12D-2016 Tom Moulton remix myself, but it says the 12D-2012 is 12 seconds longer...the better Walter Gibbons remix on the album is either 7:00 or a little longer, it depends on which copy you've got.....Jimmy, what're you doing nowadays? I went to jay-bee's website today and found a lot of your mixes there...you're still doing stuff together?
thanks for your response
Johnny
Hey! So it is you..I was right :D Did you just find this forum? Or you just never posted? What am I doing nowdays..well, not a whole lot really in the music or DJ aspect aside from the occasional remix donation here or there for this place called United Remixers Guild that a buddy of mine got me into. Personaly I havent been real well but if ya want email me and i'll tell ya about that (dont know what your email is now days lol). Now, on the Double Exposure subject, a 12 second difference is probably nothing more than a label screw up on one of em which makes the 12 sec difference. Thats happened with alot of stuff. For instance, my white label pressing of Candido's Dancin And Prancin LP says Dancin And Prancin is a little over 8 mins when in fact its the same 6 min version and Jingo is 10 mins plus and its really a little over 9. They always alot of times in the good ol days had the times messed up a tad on the labels.

that's the one hehe...maybe I was wrong about 'his' website...I guess it's another forum for remixing poeple and a place to put their works...your stuff is there too
URGDJ I think it is....
Ahh yes, thats the "United Remixers Guild" I was talkin bout in the previous post. Didnt know you went over there LOL. So I guess you've heard alot of our latest stuff? We had an awsome discohouse medley/remix featuring adult film star Aurora Snow (who gave us personal authentic drops for this mix..hehe) a few weeks or so back. Aside from the porn stuff she provided over our remixing, we remixed some great disco tracks in pieces. Amungs them in the remix are Ramsey Lewis, Patrice Russan, Dennis Parker, Mike Theodore, ELO and more..you should check it out if you havent heard it already and post your feedback if its still up around there (I think it is).

I think that the confusion about these pressings may stem from the fact that Salsoul had a confusing practice of using the same series of numbers to document both 12" pressings and 7" pressings (and sometimes they would produce BOTH a 7" and 12" pressing using the same number). They would use a SZ prefix to denote 7" and a 12D prefix for 12" releases. According to the info I gathered, Salsoul 2012 was only a 7" commercial release with the following songs:
My Love Is Free 4:30 / Just Can't Say Hello 3:10
I have never seen or heard of a different 12" pressing of MLIF other than the commercial 12" with the Tom Moulton remix on 12D-2016.

please take a look at the details below, this could be seen on different label listings for Salsoul..thanks for your response, please don't hesitate to write back
12D-2012 Double Exposure
My Love Is Free – 9:42
12D-2016 Double Exposure
My Love Is Free – 9:30
The Salsoul Orchestra
It Don't Have To Be Funky (To Be A Groove) – 7:20
"It Dont Have To Be Funky" is the B side of Double Exposure by Double Exposure..listing it as Salsoul Orchestra must be a misprint like the B Side of Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" 12'' is listed as Laura Taylor "Some Love" and it's really "Make Belive Lovers" by Anita..I felt like an ass for so many years thinkin the "Make Belive Lovers" song was "Some Love" By Laura Taylor

are you sure? 'cause 'It Don't Have To Be Funky' does not appears on any Double Exposure album but is one of the highlights on Salsoul Orch 'Nice'n'Nasty'
Johnny
Jimmy, that's not a typo. The B side is the Salsoul Orchestra as I have the record that Trammp speaks of. It's one of those double artist 12 inch type of releases. TK and Motown did a few like that as well.

I 'Googled' the 9:42 time for this track and found that it is the running time on "The Original Salsoul Classics: 20th Anniversary" cd compilation. I don't have the cd with me right now to play, but I am pretty certain that the CD version is the same 9:30 Tom Moulton remix with a corrected time for the cd transfer. I am just guessing here, but I suspect that someone was eager to fill in the gaps on the discography and made the assumption that the 9:42 mix was the missing version for 2012 (which I believe was only issued on 7").Originally Written by Trammp Johnson
Is the discography you are referring to on either www.hotdiscomix.de or www.black-music-collectors.com? If so, both of these have other erroneous or 'unconfirmed' Salsoul 12" pressings listed. Each of those listed below were only issued as 7" to the best of my knowledge:
2002 Salsoul Hustle
2004 Tangerine / Chicago Bus Stop
2013 Everyman (Has to Carry His Own Weight)
2015 Little Drummer Boy
2023 Sweet Dynamite (2023 was the 7" pressing - the 12" is 12D-2032)

****, then mine is a typo! Cause mine says its by Double Exposure. Again, damn typos made me think all this time a song was by a diff artist :oops:Originally Written by Bernie
