    BEAUTIFUL BEND

The thousand of things you regret in life...

I regret not to have known some disco tracks at the time...

    For instance....

Those 2 tracks on Side 1 (THAT'S THE MEANING segued with BOOGIE MOTION) played much here in Rio at the time.. (in discos and in daily night radio disco shows). They were also included in many compilations... Yet I think the LP was never released here...

But Side 2 (MAKE THAT FELLING COME AGAIN segued with AH DO IT) never played here (at least I can't remember)... I just came to know those songs with the re-release of that album in CD form in 1999.

I regret not knowing both songs at the time, cause they're far superior to the more commercial side 1.

What to say of a song like MAKE THAT FEELING COME AGAIN? It is like an epic film score played to a disco beat!

The majority of you people surely already know the song, but if there's anyone here on the board who never heard it, it sounds like a piece of classical music played to a disco beat. Ravel or Debussy to a disco beat.

Very very very beautiful, calm, classy, peaceful and sad, in spite of the unrelentless beat. It is an instrumental track in which the vocals sing a single line overall, exorting someone to make that feeling come again.

Wasn't disco supposed to be crap? Wasn't it suppose to be overtly commercial and a sell-out?? Well, those who think so should listen to this album, specially side 2

As I have never had the LP at the time, I would like to have this information:

1 - What exact year was it released ?

2 - What label released it?

3 - Was it Boris Midney's second or first LP ?

4 - The CD is called BEAUTIFUL BEND by BORIS MIDNEY. Was the LP called MAKE THAT FEELING COME AGAIN by BEAUTIFUL BEND?

5 - The album tracks were the same as the CD tracks?

    Thanks

I can't answer them all right now as I'm at work, but off the top of my head...

...it's his second or third album I think (USA-European Connection "Come Into My Heart" was first)

It's credited to Beautiful Bend and is self-titled if I remember correctly. It was originally released on Marlin/TK in the USA.

It actually has "side 1" and "side 1 continued" instead of "side 2".

And I completely agree, side 2 (or "side 1 continued") is VASTLY superior to side 1. I only picked this up on a whim, as I had only heard side one from the compilation CD and wasn't all that impressed. But "Make That Feeling Come Again" completely blew me away. Gorgeous! I now wish I'd picked up the CD before it went out of print.

Boris Midney was one of the true visionaries and creative forces of disco who created some of the most engrossing and articulate sounds of the era.Truly listenable and danceable disco music.

    From AMG
"Pioneering dance music producer/arranger Boris Midney was among the principal architects of the Eurodisco sound ? one of the first to exploit the full potential of 48-track recording, his trademark blend of strings, horn and percussion created a sound as deep and lush as any heard during the disco era. Born in Russia, Midney was a classically-trained composer who started out writing film scores; turning to disco, however, he discovered his true calling, and working under a number of guises including Caress, Beautiful Bend, the USA/European Connection, Masquerade, Double Discovery, Companion and Festival, he produced an enormously prolific body of work from his New York City studio ERAS. Relatively quiet during the 1980s and early '90s, Midney resurfaced in 1999 with the techno-influenced Trancesetter."
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush

Ask anyone who ever heard me play (Art? :) ) and they'll tell you "Make That Feeling Come Again" was always in my stack. I never went back to side one after hearing this. The song is just too beautiful, even to this day. Years ago, my lover wrote a piece of music inspired by 'MTFCA'. He did the keyboards and I worked up the rhythm tracks. Took it into NYC for a little debut at our regular bar. They knew exactly where Bill was coming from because they loved 'MTFCA' just as much as we did. "Pretty music" at its best. The year it came out, this album was 'the summer album' talked about by the guys on Fire Island. When I finally got it I knew why.

I'm back here after a brief hiatus and just wanted to say that after reading this thread I decided to give a listen to MTFCA, a MUSICAL MASTERPIECE, in fact it's playing now as I type this, and I must say that I totally love it, best song from this LP. I like almost all of Boris Midney's stuff.

MTFCA is a song I would certainly love to dance in a club around 4 or 5 AM...this song brings a lot of emotions and nice thoughts :) You surely want to hear it again right after it finishes.

BOY, OH BOY, OH BOY music at it's best. This track always evokes 12 West and my family of friends and at the top of my favorites from the era!

Thank you guys for your help.
Nice to see that you all also love that song.

I`ve seen in some sites a 12INCH version of THAT`S THE MEANING and BOOGIE MOTION.

Can anyone confirm if that is a real REMIX or just the same album tracks released in 12inch format???

It is a 12 inch edit from the album. It's nice, but get the album as it is complete. The album is on compact disc and sounds very good.

In case anyone didn't know, there is a wonderful 2 CD 'Boris Midney Anthology' onOZ records. It doesn't include MTFCA but there are many other wonderful tracks including the incomparable "Living up to Love" (Boris' most complex composition IMHO) and "Can he find another one".

My best friend would sigh when hearing the pretty break in this track and say "all is well with the world, all is well"

I love what Art's friend said, "All is well with the world," because this glorious piece of music really does have something hopeful and reassuring about it. I bought the album when it came out in '78 and have, I'm sure, played it throughout the years since then. I never got to hear it in a disco--the records with pretty melodies never seemed to do well in Seattle, and I could only get into underage clubs anyway. Ah, well. It makes the song title even more significant: Make that feeling come again, the one I didn't get to feel before.

Does anyone else remember disco in Seattle in the late 70's, in the over-21 clubs I mean? I wonder if Midney's records got played much there...

    Hi Paulo!
    More information on the sleeve:

    Beatiful vocals by Xo-Xo :o
Boris Midney says: "thanks to Ray Caviano and his NYC 'soul' crew.
Art work and cover photography by Boris Midney (of course). It's a candle in the moonlight.
Boris Midney dedicated this album to his mother.

Isn't this CD long out of production?...i.e. only available used if you can find it?

..or beautifully bent as it was called by DJ's ....

I'm surprised that no one has posted this fact: Boogie Motion got worked into our brains weekly as the theme for the TV show "Dance Fever"
