Just got back from the divine Ms. L's gig at Ronnie Scott's and it's the concert of the year, no question. Brother Curtis on bass, the great Victor Lewis on drums and a young pianist named Robert Galper threw down a firey (where applicable 8) ), largely modal set and to paraphrase Curtis, everybody was 'on the one'. Carmen herself was just superb.
Don't be afraid of jazz - if you like music, period, there's something for all here. Don't miss her.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Wish I'd been there! "Samba La Playa" is excellent. And her sublime "I'm not in love" is truly wicked!
Come back real soon, Carmen.
Actually, Carmen Lundy is one of those i've missed out on :o. Not on purpose obviously, but with so much stuff to check out all the time, I tend to forget a lot of good stuff too.
Thanks for reminding me Forrrce - I will investigate now.
Sounds like Ms. Lundy puts on a great live show - I have been listening to her new album that was released today (1-29-08) entitled Come Home. She is amazing! Two songs that I most enjoy are Come Home and Happy New Year. Check her out and let me know what you think! I plan to catch her live when I can.
I totally agree Carmen is amazing!! I was recently introduced to her by a friend - my friend also introduced me to another beautiful jazz singer named Karen Blixt. She has a new album out called Spin This and it is fantastic! One of my favorite tracks is called Night and Day. She has a great sound and is brilliant live. You can catch her May 21st at Catalinas Jazz Club in Holywood, CA. Check her out and let me know what you think!
