    Advice on rotary mixers please

    Hey all,
I'm new to the site but can I just say oh my god I think i'm going to pee my pants!!!!!! A website devoted to disco, i don't thimk I'm ever going to go offline again!!!!
I'm from Leeds in the UK and i'm a 24 year old dj studying poular and world music at university. I spin disco, funk, soul, deep house and nu jazz. I'm looking to get a rotary mixer soon and I was just wondering if I could get peoples opinions on the various makes out there on the market because not that many people in the UK are into the whole rotary thing so it's hard to get infomation from people about them. I've used them once or twice, but again, you don't often see them over here. Rotary mixer is almost viewed as a dirty couple of words. So all you stateside boys and girls, drop me a message about which ones you rate and which ones you don't or give me an email at monsieurmoutare@hotmail.com and hopefully you can all guide me in the right direction.
Peace to all and I'll do my upmost to keep the sound alive in my little part of the UK. :D

    Hi WK,

Welcome to the board. Glad you found us. You must be psychic as just last week a member posted a link to some rotary mixer. Click the link below, go the post by 'mynameismatt' and click on 'ROTARY MIXER GUIDE'. You can start your research here as I'm sure most of these companies have websites. I can't offer any current advice on rotaries since I haven't touched one in more years than I want to count. But, I know some of the guys on the board can lead you in the right direction.

    Good Luck.

If I were to use rotarys, I would go blindly to RANE and pick one of those switchable ones... you can remove and replace sliders with rotarys and then back again....

I've never understood this passion for rotary mixers.
I realise people like Bobby V swears by them and that he reckons that they (the one he prefers anyway) mix in the mid range better (which for the life of me can't fully understand or understand why that would be better...but hey, what the heck), but surely they're pigs to do accurate cuts with. When I first went to linear sliders I absolutely loved them and never wanted to go back to rotaries. At last I could perform segues properly and chop the outgoing signal at an instant. So precise, so theatrical (if you decided to make it look so) and for my money, so much better.

All I would say is that poxy little 60mm faders are crap. Find a mixer with 100mm ones and you wont go too far wrong, especially if they're Penny & Giles. Any slide fader is surely just as replaceable as a rotary one, unless I've missed something.
