    First Disco 12 inch?

I know this is an often debated topic but I have some new information.
A contact of mine claims to have a test pressing 12 inch from November 1974 of Disco Queen by Hot Chocolate. This was released as a promotional 7 inch by Atlantic (DSKO 51) but the test pressing 12 inch is slightly longer. The first proper Atlantic 12 was Mellow Blow by Barrabas (DSKO 56) but this test pressing obviously predates that by some months.
Could Hot Chocolate be the first ever Disco 12 inch?

I would like to see it too....!!
Apparently the B side is "Tornado" by The Wiz which was the promo 7 inch following Hot Chocolate on Atlantic (DSKO 52)...The plot thickens....

It could still be true... but BIG TREE records released their single EMMA and it started charting in the US in February.. could be a possibility... but highly unlikely..

E-FUNK emma would have been around the same date here but then [here] there was another single between- cheri babe unless america went another way or that single bombed there.
i have no hot chocolate albums as im not really a fan but i would have 'thought' those two singles were recorded at different sessions/times to disco queen for the only reason being the label the product was released on here plus the label owner were both pretty naff, even with the passing of time id find it hard to believe hot chocolate recorded in 1974 a record with the D word in the title!....but wait KARLOS is on to something :P dsko 51 WAS released late 74 as a promo

maybee label owner mickie most wasnt the 'twat' i thought he was

 Well guys...Here I go again "beating a dead horse" ...BUT....I never really considered Disco Queen by Hot Chocolate a "disco" record! I "NEVER" heard it played at dances or parties...(Too young in 1975 to go into discos though...So maybe it was played there) I just remember the song having a strong back beat to it...But Disco Queen a "disco record"???? Hmmm.... :o I don't know about that...Here's something I do remember...When that single was out as a follow up to Emma (which was so controversial for it's time as it dealt with suicide) Disco Queen came on the charts with such a force...And then all of sudden it got stuck in at about position 28 on the charts and then fell off...I always wondered why...Take Care... 8) Mario

    Discodisk,

EMMA single entered the American Charts on 2/8/75 and stayed on for 14 weeks. While DISCO QUEEN debuted on 5/31/75... It is highly unlikely that BIG TREE Records even gave it a thought on the single you mentioned above. Also, their LP Cicero Park charted on 3/1/75. I'm starting to question the release date for the promo 12" single... :-? :)

i can't tell you when the hot chocolate/wiz 12" first appeared, but it does exist - i own it.

it's nothing to look at - it's a test pressing with a blank white label and a blank white sleeve without a hole - that's the only form in which it appeared.

my copy previously belonged to the disco columnist for record world, which was just like billboard at the time, so i can verify that it's authentic.
